Sensitive about your horse?

Moi, sensitive?

I used to get really fed up and upset with the negative comments about my mare being thrown my way mostly by people who looked shocked if you returned the compliment

One day I realised that the helpful, quiet and confident people genuinely liked her and it was the nervous, shouty type peeps that kept telling me what she had done wrong

It's all much more like water off a ducks back now, but if I do get upset I can let off steam here now! LOL

depends who says it and what they say, to me he's gorgeous and my little superstar, but i admit he can be rather lazy and is lacking in manners, which we are working on

! He's got quite a fan club locally, so I put the nasty negative comments down to jealousy or ignorance

I hope that's the half that's not related to my horse - otherwise I might get sensitive!
I'm very rude about my horse and a couple of other people have permission to be rude about him too. No-one else is allowed!

Lol! No it is definitely the other 1/2! People are always surprised when I say she is 1/2 TB!

Most people love my horse! Even the yard farrier, who doesn't like many horses, thinks my mare is "cracking"! She's not fabulously put together and the best criticism/ comment people can come up with is that she has legs like trees (short and stubby and VERY upright) which isn't too offensive so I don't mind! The one thing I cannot stand people commenting on is if they think she's overweight. I tried my very best to get her into a suitable fit condition last year from being rather skinny and ribby (she's an ID X and looked awful), yes she did get fat at first and then I couldn't get rid of the belly. She does actually have a rather large ribcage and almost always looks like she has a big belly, even when she was really skinny. It got to me a bit when people told me she was fat and I was struggling to keep condition and topline on her at the time. I hate it now too as she is very overweight at the moment, but it can't be helped - I can either stable her 24/7 or have her out on good grazing 24/7, I chose the grazing as it's better for her injury. I realise that people can't know my situation and why I've had to let her get so fat, but it bugs me a bit. I'm only human, and my horse is only a horse!
Generally though there are certain things I get sensitive about, but the rest I don't mind!

My 'friend' often comments on my pony's weight which winds me up as she has a welsh that is much fatter than mine and im always like 'yes im aware she's a tad overweight thanks' Grr so annoying other than that its generally most people i know think the suns shines out my pony's backside so i dont have many problems. I only criticise peoples horses if they are particulary ill mannered (in a tactful way of course!) i cant bare barging and fidgeting. Real pet hates!

Depends on the situation. If it is someone who doesn't know my horse and doesn't have a clue about horses, then says something rather insulting about him, then yes I am sensitive to the comments, I do retaliate and I do ask them how they can justify that (as is the normal case on my current yard - the type of people who like to think they know everything and are God's Gift to man, but really don't have a clue!!).

If it is a down to earth comment that can be justified (be it good or bad), then fair enough, it's the snobbish people who say it just to rub you up the wrong way that annoy me (so I generally say something just as snobbish in return when they start

)!

I got alot of comments about Ty's big belly but then I knew it was bad and used to say that he was in foal......

Can't say I'm that bothered as all horses have their faults - whether it be that someone doesn't like their colour, their conformation etc...

I'm well aware that neither of mine are perfect and am not overly sensitive.
One girl at the yard has an especially stroppy mare and really gets the hump when we ask her to move the horse over and stand by it's bum to so we can pass without getting kicked or bitten or tell the children to stay away from her. She insists on tying it on the corner outside my stable so that we all have to walk past it and consistantly feeds it on the yard and lets it put it's head over my stable door and eat from my haynet, biting my horse if he tries to eat it himself. She definitely has rose coloured glasses and gets really upset if you comment on her horses behaviour.
