I have recently aquired myself a new horse. A dutch warmblood mare. She has three white socks and is already suffering from a mild attack of mud fever! Also she has extremely sensitive skin and is affected by fly bites. but not a sweet itch reaction. I have bought a really good fly rug which covers her body completely and a mask but would like some advise on how to deal with the mud fever effectively. The attack is not too bad just sore and crusty at the moment. What is the best barrier cream to use? I reckon I'm going to have problems in the winter if I dont try and sort the problem out now. Once I can figure how to post photos on here will put some piccys on.

I Hibiscrub once a week and when dry, apply baby oil as a barrier once or twice a week. Unfortunately, white legs are prone to mud fever.
