I have recently taken on a 16.1 OTTB gelding. He is 12 years old and weighs approx 500kg.
Over the winter he has lost so much weight and a vet diagnosed him with liver fluke. He was treated and started trying to put weight back on him.
The vet suggested 24hr soak sugar beet along with coarse mix and linseed oil. Much like my 13.2 Dartmoor X we came to realise that the OTTB too had a sensitive stomach. We already avoided molasses with our pony as it sent him crazy and so we also excluded it from the horses diet.
I was then advised to try him on calm and condition in which I have done but the only difference I see is the condition but not the calming!
For now my pair are both on calm and condition, coarse mix , linseed oil and a tablespoon of yogurt twice a day .
I had read reviews on the Cavalor pianissimo feed in which caught my eye.
Does anyone have any advice for myself? Also would swapping haylage for hay have a good impact?
please help, slowly loosing the will to live?
