Hi, everytime after hunting my TB mare is always sensitive under the girth area, probably because of the sweat drying up during riding or something..we are quick to wash it with luke warm water or rub baby oil in it afterwards but it only helps a little bit....would it help if i put something on it before getting on like baby oil under the girth or something with a girth sleeve?

thanks in advance.

Might be worth trying a sheepskin girth sleeve?

Baby oil can irritate some horses skin. I'd wash off with water and also would use a sheepskin girth sleeve as Tiffany suggests. There were some on offer on Ebay from Brookfield Equestrian a week or so ago.

i agree to try a sheepskin sleeve.... really helped my arab who was cut when clipping (not me may I add) on the girth area and used to collapse when tacking up... but after trying the sleeve she never done it again:)

If you were using one of those cottage craft type material girths, then you need to be aware that the webbing strips can cause alot of localised pressure, rather than transfering the pressure across the total width of the girth. Also once soaked with sweat the fabric girths can be abrasive.

I'd go for a leather girth, with no elastic, or a wintec type one which has elastic all the way through it, not just at one end, and still use the girth sleeve
