My mare has always hated being groomed and will pull faces at me so I try to keep it to a minimum. She also pulls faces and grinds her teeth when girthin up even though I do it carefully. I know she isn't in pain as have had her checked by physio and she is great to ride. No bucking, napping etc. She is working really well at the moment and it ridden or lunged 6 days a week. She has no hard feed just hay, chop and vit/min supplement. Any ideas please as its the one area where I am stumped.

Some horses have very sensitive skin. Have you tried different types of grooming brushes? There might be one she likes better than the others.

Re girth, maybe try a sheepskin sleeve or similar?

I use to look after a horse that was equally as sensitive , he was just very thin skinned. If he had sweated we use to wash him with warm water as he would only tolerate a very soft body brush. It might be worth trying a fluffy girth cover on her girth as ours perferred it.
