Separated heel after abscess burst

Has anyone had any experience of a heel separating after an abscess bursting? Abscess burst a couple of weeks ago, and mare is completely sound, on both hard and soft ground. But there is what looks like a big gap forming on her heel, and part of her sole looks to be lifting.

I have been desperately trying to get hold my farrier, but am failing miserably. In the meantime, I have been keeping it clean as much as possible and spraying Footmaster in it to clean lurgies to a minimum.

I know I need the farrier to see this, but anyone else had this and had a good outcome?

Yes - but more round to the side, so under the bar and buttress of the hoof on one side. I am trying to not worry too much - mare is sound and quite happy, but even so....
 
Scary when you haven't seen it before! So long as it's not sore and there's no gunk coming out try not to worry too much. Abscess in sole area is a bit like a blister and new will be growing//have grown underneath or when they burst they leave a slit which often isn't visible until the hoof grows a bit.

My horse did this about 10 years ago. Extremely scary at the time, but she was never lame through out. She's now fine - though her hoof is a bit of a funny shape.


My horse was had trodden on a nail, which went about 1cm into the side of her frog. Despite not ever being lame, and lots of tubbing in the days afterwards, about 6 weeks later she started oozing pus from her coronets, and a few weeks after that, the sole and frog fell off.
 
Sounds like it's just growing out and repairing to me. You've got it covered with the hoof spray though and I wouldn't worry too much if she is sound.
Mine has just had one too and has had seperation in exactly the same place as yours, I haven't used any foot spray as yet but do you think leucillin would do the same job?
 
I hope that it is just growing out. Finally managed to get hold of farrier yesterday afternoon and he is coming out today to take a look.

The spray I have is the Net-tex septi-cleanse spray, contains chlorophen & triclosan. Hopefully farrier will sort out x
