help, ihave had my gelding for over a year now but recently bought a house with land, so i had to get another horse for my boy for company, he is inseperable from her, she is only 3 and he is 10 but cant be parted from her, obviously i have to take her out without him but he just goes crazy i have to put him in his stable so he does not hurt himself or try to jump the fence, she is more laid back and willing to be alone, any help would be appreciated, should i get a goat or other farm animal so he is not so attached to his girlfriend????

I think it may be a case of cold turkey? If you can shut him in thats great. Start by taking your mare out for 5 minutes, then 10 , 15, half and hour and so on. It is a difficult situation , but it is just a case of your gelding needs to work out that she will come back.

this is where a companion shetland pony could come in handy! In all honesty, you are not likely to solve this without introducing a third animal first, it is a real pain and the primary downside of having your own small yard.

Once the companion is in place you should be able to separate the other two for increasing periods of time, to try and do it before that might cause one of yours to try and jump or charge the fence or otherwise hurt hemselves

this is where I find my donkeys sooo useful!
My two year old goes out with them and she can happily dander about with just them occasionally she has her mum out with her but even her mum is not allowed near HER donkeys!
One thing to watch they then can become attached to the other thing ie the donkey!
