my mare,Bailey, is usally fine with any horse being put in the field with her, you can put anything in and she wont even notice they are there. But a few weeks ago i put my sister's horse,Ted, in with her and she has fallen in love with him. But now she is in season she is being a pain, i think he has been trying to mount her and has been nipping her because shes got some fur missing and wierd bumps all over her hind quarters. So i decided to put them into seperate fields so she doesnt get hurt and she made such a fuss over it, she was walking all over me, rearing and even kicked out at me. She is never normally like this, usually i struggle to get her moving. After i put them in seperate fields i watched them for about half and hour and she just stood in the mud by the gate making lots of noise and wierd faces, then after a while she would gallop round the field bucking then go and stand by the gate again. i went to check them later and she had brocken some of the electric fence down and was still making a fuss.
Ted isn't bothered in the slightest and is quite happy just munching on the grass and ignoring bailey but she just wont give up. has anyone got any advice on how to calm her down or anything?? thanks xx

Oh dear, how annoying! Hopefully she will calm down once she isn't in season. Does she have any other companions in her field? Can she go out with another mare instead?

unfortunatly not :( i only have three acres and was hoping that would be enough but now she is galoping round the field and churning it all up i dont know what im going to do.

Typical mare, get her on the hormone stuff Oestress or something not sure how to spell it, should calm her down. But as I found out to my cost years ago never put mare and gelding in together, mare comes into season and has the hots, gelding is still male and you still might have trouble riding out without the other.

No advice other than to say she'll probably calm down after a couple of days. Lil has to be kept in a field on her own and she was horrendous at first but she's fine about it now. I hated doing it but it was for the best.
