I dont have any advice, but I do know what your going through. Ive just moved my two horses to a new yard and they hate being separated now. The yjust wont settle. Its not good news when one of them is young and Ive only just got my confidence back with him after a bad fall.

This is such a pain, you have my complete sympathy. It often happens when you move yards or with a new horse, but its a total pest when they dont get over it. I tend to leave the 'one left behind' out in the field and just let them get on with it, but appreciate that this is not always practical. I dont think there is a magic solution but I am sure he will stop screaming in the end so just grit your teeth and try to ignore him!

I completelely sympathize, have the same problem with my two, one is more clingy than the other! He is getting much better now, i've been taking him away/letting the other go out in the morning first and leaving a gap, making him behave, stand still with lots of attention, until he is calm, then led out!! appreciate you don't have many days, but wonder if you could try this a bit!?

Other could be a stable Mirror, there was a thread on here about them not so long ago?

But lastly they DO get over it....my old boy (although he has company again now!) was on his own for 4 years.....he soon settled down!

Is there another horse in the distance he can see/over the fence etc?

Can you borrow a shettie/companion for a few days?

Hope all goes well, not something thats enjoyable, i will have the same prob in a few weeks, when mine goes off on his hols....oh 'eck!

I have this problem with Chex and his mare, made worse because its just the 2 of them in the field, and they live together in the same pen overnight. I make sure the mare is always brought a few hours in before Chex in the evenings, and put her out first some mornings and leave him at the yard. When another horse was out in the field I was suprised by how quickly they dumped each other, they were still close, but not quite so dependant. They are both sensible though, I know I can leave him in the field and he won't try and jump out or anything. Probably not a lot you can do if the other horse is going away soon though. If most of the horses are in, he's probably better in too.

I have this too, even worse the mare is a boarder with me. I sold her on but she's stayed here.

If I want to take her companion out (who I own) I have to put one of my own mares with her otherwise she just runs through fences, or the stall door! When she's with my mare she bullies her atrociously, it's a Catch 22 situation, the mare can't leave before springtime so I am stuck with this annoying problem.
I've tried pairing her up with one of the others but that hasn't worked because she is so dominant, I can't move her companion out of view because I only have three fenced fields right now with no chance of fencing the others until the ground thaws.

It's incredibly frustrating when they become so upset that they can, and do, damage fencing and themselves. I really don't have any advice that you probably haven't tried already, but you have my utmost sympathy.
