My horse has a suspected sequestra on his cannon. It started with a small cut on his leg three weeks ago (he struck into himself in the field). At first it seemed like nothing, but was slow to heal, then after three weeks the leg suddenly filled.
I've had the vet out, but I need to ring him in the morning to give an update, and maybe arrange for him to go in for X rays.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this, and if their horse has surgery, how quickly they recovered etc.

I've seen the surgery done and it seemed to be straightforward. Horse left vets fairly quickly. This was ten years ago and never received any follow up from us so don't know how long recovery takes I'm afraid.

This may be of no use at all but my horse had a larger bone chip removed yesterday but from near his radius under sedation. It came out really quickly which surprised the vet as he thought it would be tricky. Im now waiting and hoping my boys sound (hes on pain killers until tomorrow) as the chip was right near his carpal sheath. He is heavily bandaged and the wound wasnt stitched as it was infected but he has been allowed an hours turnout tonight and ran around like a looney. Wouldnt mind he's normally more interested in pigging out. The bandage is coming off in 2 days but the wound has to stay covered until it closes up. Vet says as long as its kept covered up and looks ok when he takes the bandages off then I can ride him weekend.
