Seriously, how hard can it be to find a companion/happy hacker on loan!?!

I'm looking for a companion for my mare. In an ideal world I'd take on a slightly older pony looking for a quieter life. Something cobby14/15hands ish suitable to take out competent but rusty riders up to about 14 stone for max of an hour happy hacking, mainly in walk with the odd trot, as I have several friends who'd love to come out hacking with me.

Only other criteria are that the pony will stay alone happily for an hour or so while I ride my mare. Turned out with 1 other on 3.5 acres in the summer, out on 13 sheltered acres with 3 others in the winter. So lammi prone is fine. I dont mind most medical issues and handling quirks wouldnt phase me at all. I've worked with horses for 10 years, I was an instructor for 5 years, I've had a couple of horses on loan, I have references coming out of my ears! and am incredibly flexible. I'm happy to take something on just for the summer or permanently. Happy to buy for a token sum if needs be.

Can I find anything? nope, not at all. I saw a 25yr old Dales pony on ad trader looking for a quieter life. They want £795 for her and in the photos shes very poor! I despair!

Project Horses website might have one or two possibles, or maybe some rescue charities looking to rehome ?
From your description, I should think they will be queuing at your gate ( we hope)
Best of luck,
Teg :)

The project horses seem to come with a hefty price tag! I feel really tight saying this, but if I'm giving a cracking home to something that, to me at least, has no tangible value, then I dont want to pay through the nose! Esp as my spare cash is going into hard standing a school and eventually stables. i'm utterly flummoxed by it all! Good riding horses, round here at least (north east) arent really selling, never mind anything else!
