Apologies for the rant - its been one of those days, this is one of many issues i've had today!

My partner bought me a pair of Sherwood Forest Dalton boots from a reputable ebay seller, for my christmas present. I didn't start wearing them until about a week into January.... they looked so nice I couldn't bring myself to get them muddy. I got them to replace my Dublin River Tall boots which had had 18 months of daily torture from me; we were on a tight budget this winter so a new pair of DRT's were not an option.
So i've been wearing the Daltons about 4 weeks. Today, I go to take the right boot off, and the whole inside literally disintegrates around my foot, trapping me inside the boot. After much swearing, huffing and puffing I managed to remove it to find the insole had completely come away from the sole of the boot and there was a massive hole where the insole meets the heel of the lining. This, I expect, after 18 months of torture. NOT after 4 weeks of light use! Don't get me wrong, I work on the yard in them, they get covered in mud and then hosed off. I know you get what you pay for, but I didn't buy them for doing my shopping on the local highstreet paired with tights and a miniskirt, so I expect at least 6 months of daily hard wearing for the price I paid.
Maybe i'm wrong (i looked at a few different brands before I settled on these) but i thought I read on one advert that SF were a sister company of Dublin, so their products were of the same high quality. This was a factor in me deciding on these, as i've always loved my DRT's, they've always lasted well considering how much I wore them, so I thought I was getting the same quality from SF.
I've just looked on SF's website, and it says that you have to return them to the stockist from where you got them, they do not accept returns. I think this is totally ridiculous, as it is a manufacturers problem, not the stockists problem surely? I've sent SF an email asking for either a refund or I'll post the damaged boots to them at my own expense, they can see the damage, and hopefully send me a new pair.

Has anyone had a similar experience, and what was the outcome? Surely the ebay seller won't be liable to refund/replace, especially as more than 4 weeks have gone by since sale date? Advice appreciated! x

Trading standards. Item must be fit for purpose. New and 4 weeks wear isn't.
I'd want a refund.
Raise now with eBay seller with photos and contact Sherwood direct.
Toggi have replaced mine without wanting receipt etc, have known ariat and Dublin do the same and even known people to do so nearing a year of continual use and been fine.

Sherwood have nothing to do with Dublin (which is from Weatherbeeta)

Your contract of sale is with the retailer so it is them you have to contact first. After all it is the retailer who received your payment for the boots.

have emailed the ebay seller, said i'd be happy to return boots at my expense for either refund/replace. Will see what happens, sale date was 16th dec so not sure if I have a leg to stand on there. not a happy bunny!

LOL. Sorry, yor "don't have a leg to stand on" comment made me lauh uder the circumtances.

Yes, you do have a leg to stand on as they are not fit for purpose. What a shame, I like SF stuff, although I rarely buy it.

lol unintended pun. I really liked them too, couldnt believe how nice they were when i took them out the box, its why it took me a week to brave it and wear them on the yard. they're far too nice to wear sloshing around in the mud and horse poo. if i could afford to have a spare pair for chelsea shopping I would have.... but maybe not any more!

I bought my daughter a pair of sherwood forest long boots. First pair started to peel away after a couple of weeks so took them back to the shop thinking maybe a duff pair. They gave me a new pair but within 3 weeks the badge on the side had come off and they'd started peeling all over. Luckily my stockists gave me a full refund. Would never entertain them again.

This is correct - consumer law says your contract is with the retailer and they are 100% responsible. The goods are faulty and not fit for purpose and not of merchantable quality and you are entitled to a refund from the retailer. If they choose to pursue the supplier that's their affair but they must refund you.

I'vve got a pair of Sherwood Forest boots - I'm on my second winter in them. They are fabulous boots, very warm and come up like new with a clean. Even cope with horrendous mud. Maybe just unlucky?

I had similar trouble with joules wellies.
They lasted about 4 weeks.
I contacted jules but they said I had to go back to the retailer which was an actual jules shop! ( but obviously may not have been)

I agree its a manufacturing fault not the retailer.
jules wellies are for show, not for the yard!

retail goods act like people have stated item has to be fit for use intended, as long as you can prove purchase take up with manufacterer and paypal (presumung this is how you paid) if you can get no joy with seller, faulty goods are faulty goods, would you take it as ' don't have a leg to stand on' if it were a new tv?

My daughter had a pair of SF wellies, utter rubbish, she hardly wore them & they split in under a month, both feet & in the same place, so obviously a design fault.

Sherwood Forest Boots are complete rubbish I tried 3 pairs of their alleged waterproof Furlong boots and then gave up and got my money back 3rd pair didnt stay waterproof for 5 minutes walking in wet grass by the time I had been out 30 minutes they were squelching and had free water slopping about in them.

And Sherwood didnt even have the manners to write back to me and the letter I wrote to them was perfectly polite. I would recomend trading standards.

Funny, I got my Sherwood Forest boots from the clearance section at Equestrian Clearance and I'm on my third winter now and they're almost as good as new.

Which is ironic when you consider they were either substandard and/or returned stock (they're actually not a pair - the lining's different in each boot and one has loops to pull them on with and the other doesn't, and the suede's faded a slightly different colour on each boot).

Having been disappointed so many times with the so-called "names" (Hunter, Ariat etc, are you listening?) I go for cheap and cheerful these days and rarely get disappointed.
