My brother text me to say he had come home to find Pippa unable to stand and shaking. We took her to the vet and he has given her a steroid/anti inflam injection and said if she is no better bring her back tomorrow.
She is now at home laid on the floor in a very awkward position with her head resting on the floor (she never lays like this). We put extra bedding in her bed and she did walk there but her whole back end is swaying- really scary!
The vet thinks it could be arthritic although I wouldn'y have thought it would turn so serious so quickly?? Also possibility of a stroke

Bloods were fine so vet is confident it isn't an infection.
Does anyone have any experience of strokes or arthritis turing so bad.....I am really scared for her.

im sorry to hear this...Did Pippa run into anything, has fallen awkwardly, playfighing with an other dog,or has she injured herself while exerciseing , how old his she

sorry for the Qs
havent had any experiance with strokes BUT my whippet was paralysed from the hips down almost two years old while running in the field,,,she had an ex-rayed, MRI...shes now walking and leading a quality of life..but will never be 100% and has regular vet checks

At the time she couldnt even stand and took weeks before she would even start to walk and was in a sling

When Are you taking her back to the vet, have they suggested an X ray

good luck , hope you get to the bottom of this...its very worrying when you see them like this

She is 15/16 so not a young lady! She is just getting over colitis so has not been runnng around anywhere for a few months. I just have a feeling I am going to have to prepare myself for the worst. She has been in tip top condition until very recently. She had started to get a bit stiff, couldn't jump on my bed etc but was still going on long walks until she got the stomach trouble.

She's a grand old age, and sadly things can turn quickly when it's a dog's time. My last Spaniel was 13 when she showed the same symptoms as your dog. In her case, her kidneys were failing and she had uremia. However if your dog had blood tests it would have been picked up, also the vet would have noticed if your dog needed hydrating. So I don't know what is the cause, sorry that's not very helpful.

My current dog recently has had back end collapse but only transient, with acute pain but it quickly passes, and the vet has concluded it's a back injury which we are treating with anti inflammatories and hydrotherapy.

(((hugs and vibes))) for Pippa.

Oh what a worry for you and Pippa

No experience or advice I'm afraid - but good luck at the vets tomorrow.
