some people just ask for way too many criteria for way too small a budget :p

"Horse to buy for hacking for myself & my two boys, therefore needs to be bomb proof excellent in traffic, which has never reared & bucked etc. Is up to date with vaccinations, worming, dentist, farrier. All tack included if possible. Must be suitable for novices, must be schooled must have an excellent temperament, loving nature, good character as this will be my childrens first horse. A loving home waiting, horse will be in field in the day and stabled at night. A reasonable price please, a light hack & companion would be an ideal first horse. in price range 500 + needs to be safe lead reign. thankyou"

It's a bit optimistic but they do state that a light hack/companion would be ideal and there are a fair number of those that people are struggling to give away for free as people want a horse they can go out and compete on. So if it's a horse that due to age is unable to do much but is still able to do a gentle trot round the lanes I don't think 500 is that far off.

I did think this, but then i thought actually a light hack/companion wouldnt be ideal for them.. they have three people that want to ride this horse so it would end up doing a fair amount of work. not ideal for a horse suitable for light hacking.

True, although it would be dependent on the childrens ages, two under 5's probably aren't going to do a lot more than be led round the yard or have a walk round the lanes, the parent I would think would be doing a bit more.
Obviously I don't know the children are under 5 that was only an example because the ad says they want a horse suitable for lead rein.

The problem is you get what you pay for, and unfortunately £500 isn't going to get you very far these days. I hope they take someone experienced with them as i can see a dodgy dealers delight on the horizon.

I've got a horse that would've suited them , but I paid £3k and he's only 4 . For what they want I would say £3.5k unless they buy an oldish horse , therefore £2-2.5k

Price aside Im a bit more concerned that she is looking upto 15.3hh as a childs first pony  Maybe her children are older than it comes across.
It would be possible to find a childs pony (Sec A) for example not far off that price but a safe, sensible 15-15.3hh maybe explains why her advert is quite old.
