Just thought I would bore everyone with a few pics of my new Irish Setter puppy.

This is Alfie, very sweet in a slightly daft setter kind of way lol and we all love him to bits,so far anyway;)

This is when he first arrived two weeks ago aged 11 weeks

Thanks for the nice comments:)

Not sure about intelligent it seems kind of like a contradiction in terms when speaking of an irish setter lol,BUT have to say I have been pleasantly surprised so far with how sensible he is and he actually seems to have the ability to listen which is a first for me with setters, normally have the attention spans of gnats lol

He does have a lovely expression, and is a gorgeous colour. There is a tv advert on at the moment with a setter in it, not sure what its advertising (so a bit of a fail there for the marketing co) but the dog is stunning.

Thanks again for the nice replies:)

I *think* it's butchers choice dog food, and yes that is one very handsome setter.Kind of funny when he get's hit by the frizbee though because he's too busy prancing about, typical setter lol

Our old setter was without doubt the most intelligent dog we have ever had - the thing with Irish Setters is they pretend to be dumb but their not!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Maybe that is the intelligent part, they know when to play dumb;):p

I know they are clever dogs really, but they do an awfully good job of acting daft as a brush lol.

I can't remember what its advertising but isn't it the one where the other dogs laugh at him cos he gets hit right in the mush with a frisby or something, it'll bug me know what its advertising lol

he is heart-meltingly adorable:eek::D A do have a soft spot for them , all the ones I have met have had beautiful temperaments as well.

Ahhhhh, reminds me of when mine was a pup :D. They are absolutely stunning, adorable and extremely loving dogs but are also pretty much unhinged  :D.

Ours will be three this year and still behaves as though he is six months old . Seeing yours makes me want another  :o :D.

dog food advert :) he's talking about how amazing the dog food makes him look and then he gets hit in the face with a Frisbee :D

gorgeous pup btw OP!

Thank you all so much for the lovely comments on Alfie, has made my day:)

Lol this is pretty much my experience of them as well, beautiful but bonkers:D

My previous one was probably 5 yrs old before he calmed down and became even slightly sane lol.Alfie is actually quite calm and sensible for a setter so far,am quietly confident might have one that is actually trainable and not completely mad as a hatter;)

If you don't mind me asking, what is his breeding? :)

I don't actually know his breeding other than mum and dad as didn't get a pedigree chart with him.
His mum and dad are both KC registered though as is Alfie so think I can request one when change his ownership over?? Not sure with dogs if there is anyway of searching online for free like with horses??
His dam is Choakfords Millie and his Sire is Fire Warrior.Dad was very special indeed, could quite happily have taken him home as well!!

are you going to take him to puppy classes?.

I did consider it but there aren't any very local to me,so don't think that we will be able to go to those. Will make sure he get's plenty of opportunities for socialising though and will definitely keep an eye out for any classes that come up near by.

a Gordan Setter called Jordan - now he was SOOOOOOO naughty, but loveable. :D

Lol I have heard that about so many Gordons lately, despite the fact they are supposed to be one of the more sensible setters, guess someone forgot to tell them that:p

Well mine was a little so & so as a puppy so let's hope Alfie is going to be a good boy. In fact, he may even be able to teach Harley a thing or two :D.
The one drawback with mine is that he thinks he is a suitable size for a lapdog. Being sat on the sofa as he quietly tries to slide up on to my lap is a very unnerving experience considering his size  :D. Harley was the first Setter we've owned and since having him I have become a huge fan of the breed. I'd only admired them for their looks and soft temerament before but actually owning one allows you to get to know every part of their character, both gfood and hair-raising  :D. I love how they not only look magnificent but have the softest, most loving temeperaments ever. Ours absolutely adores babies and children and he will just lay and stare at my niece or attempt to start a game with her or simply lays down in front of her with his head on her lap or just flat out while she makes a fuss of him. Obviously we never leave him unattended with children but I have absolutely no concern about his behaviour with them. If he gets fed-up he just takes himself off to the garden or to his bed :D.

I was just wondering out of interest whether he may have been related to Harley as Harley came from a breeder in the South West. His parents are on this thread (as is Harley as a pup) hard to believe he was ever that small and cute  :D. http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=313176

Spoke too soon lol my 'sensible' puppy is currently running like a loony toon from one room to the other for no apparent reason and trying to pull the cushions off the settee as he passes:rolleyes:

I suspect the honeymoon period is over lol, although he does listen when I tel him to stop so I suppose all is not lost just yet;):D

I am going to e mail breeder and see if I can find out more on the family tree front.I found both the parents DNA results for health checks on the KC website but that was about it so no help there. Will buy the pedigree chart if necessary but it's not that cheap and I am tight lol so will try and find out another way first.

You lad's parents look beautiful TB,couple of stunners!! Your Harley looks very sweet and sounds adorable in a naughty way lol
Alfie came from Launceston in Cornwall BTW if that rings any bells?? My last setter came from a good breeder near Bristol way but can't remember the prefix or any of the registered names to know if related to your lad,I have a perfectly good memory for useless information but stuff that actually matters I am hopeless with, almost as scatty as a setter lol:o

Lol. Honeymoon period definitely over ;) :D. Alfie sounds like he's well and truly settled in :p :D.

Yes, his parents really are stunners. Harley is good looking but unfortunately, he knows it :p :D. I have lots of other pictures of Harley now he is almost fully mature. Startling to look back at him as a pup and see him now, hard to believe he was ever that tiny and dopey :D.

Harley came from Bristol, two breeders by the name of Drinkwater and their prefix is Brabrook. I *think* they're about the only Setter breeders in Bristol so it's possible Harley and your last Setter were related :D.

We decided to have the pedigree chart and I must say, although expensive it is nice to have.

This is Harley now and for all his craziness, I would never change him :D - http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=451310&highlight=Harley

Sorry for sort-of hijacking your thread :o I am such a fan of these dogs that it's hard not to share and compare stories and pictures of them. They really are wonderful dogs :D.

I wish I had some pitures of our setter to post but they are all 'old' photos:(

Just to echo what Tinks said Gemma adored babies and children - she was found mpre then once curled up around their babychairs and prams:rolleyes: and not because they were potential food donors like our old Lab:rolleyes::D:D

She is the only dog we have ever had that people stopped you in the street to say how beautiful she was (and she knew it:)) She was kind and gentle bit also a right bugger and the sneakiest fastest thief we have ever had!!:D:D:D

He best trick in our old house when she and the Lab were put in the back garden was to let herself out through the side gate, in through the front door and then sit looking at the Labrador through the French windows:eek::rolleyes:D:D The Lab could never work out how it happened......:D:D:D

Harley is lovely and I had to smile when read a bit in your thread about him being exasperating, that is probably a perfect word to sum up the average setter 80% of the time lol:p

No need to apologise,is lovely to hear others stories and experiences:)

I'm sorry but that really did make me lol:D What a cheeky (but clever!!) madam, can just imagine the labs face:p

Your girl sounds like she was a real character, beauty and brains a rare combination;)

Breeder has very kindly e mailed me copy of his pedigree,I have no idea how to post on here but could try sending in a PM??

Names don't mean much to me TBH,but think there are a few winners in there by the looks of it.

Cor, gorrrrrgeous! When I win the lottery and buy my rural idyll I'm going to nick him ;)

If you win the lottery and have a rural idyll I might just come with him lol

Many thanx for the nice comment I will pass it on the the ginger devil who is currently chewing on the edge of my dresssing gown lol

If you don't mind, it would be interesting and it would be great to see if there is any relation. However, I realise I am being a bit nosey so if you don't want to or aren't keen then absolutely don't worry about it :).
