When cantering in company my mare sticks her nose in the air and sets her neck and charges off . I ride with very sensible people we never gallop off, never canter in the same place, some times when we are out do not canter at all and she is never left behind. She was always fine in the past but we have been on our new yard for a year and the problem started here!
I can't control her and do not enjoy cantering out as she does this. When we are out on our own and canter she does not do it at all.
Any suggestions please?
She's ridden in a hanging cheek snaffle.

Is she at the front/middle or back?
Does it make a difference if she is in a different position?
When did the problem start on this yard?

How much schooling do you do? I found this with my pony (but she did it out by herself as well) so I took her back to the school and worked on transitions etc and getting her listening better to me before heading out.

Hi mishaspey, I've been at the yard 18 months and for about a year we had no company whatsoever out hacking. Now I have a couple of friends who I ride out with a couple of times a week. I initially thought it was excitement at having company again and all would settle down in time.
She is always at the back of the ride (I don't trust her kicking!!!) but there is never more than the 2 of us. We have no school have to pay to hire local 1 ( very expensive).
I know I need to ride through it but when she does play up makes
Me very reluctant to canter in company.

Mine is exactly the same behind, I think the only way you would sort it is if you managed to go in front, mabye make sure your friend holds far enough back they dont get kicked and whatever happens they must not overtake!! If she is good on her own (mine also is) that should make a huge difference :)

My horse used to do this when I first got him.My instructor suggested riding him in a martingale and a flash to stop him opening his mouth and from getting his head up in the first place. A few questions, you say she is ridden in a hanging cheek snaffle.Do you use a martingale? Also does she do this at any other pace? Has her saddle and her teeth been checked at all?
My own horse is now ridden in a slotted kimblewick as I found it offers far more control than a snaffle which regardless of whether we have company or not he chooses to ignore.I have worked hard on his schooling and he now no longer needs a martingale or a flash noseband and the majority of the time I can ride him at any pace in any company without using the slots on the kimblewick but I will use them when it comes to doing fun rides and more exciting stuff this year. My ultimate aim is to get him schooled up well enough to be able to ride in some kind of dressage legal snaffle and have a go at some dressage.I'm sure I will get there eventually!

Hi spike, she only ever does in canter in company never any other pace or if I'm cantering out on my own. Her saddle was done a couple of months ago and she's due the dentist soon (last had teeth done in April). I don't use a martingale on her but I am wondering if it will be helpful stopping her getting her head up in the first place. She does have a flash on.
