On the picture of it connected to the the fence it shows the red wire somehow clipped to the back of the energiser and then to the tape, whilst mine is just loose and connects from the energiser to my tape, I am just using the 2 d batteries until I can get a car battery. I can't see anything on the instructions re this, can anyone help? Tia

I would really like to help, but I am confused from your description.

Could you send a photo?

ETA -

Our last one was a Fenceman. It had a separate earth, that was a pole you put in the ground. That had a wire running from the energiser to that. Other than that there was a wire from the energiser to the fence, and 2 wires to the battery (one red, one black).

Some energisers are internally earthed (as in the pole the energiser is on is the earth). Then there are 2 wies to the battery and one to the fence.

Have u connected the circular end of the fence connecting wire to the black knob on top? Unscrew the knob and pop the circular bit of the wire on the bolt then rescrew the knob on.

If you mean the big battery cables with clips then you only attach them if you have a big battery, not if you use the internal batteries.

Yes, I have done that and attached the clip but to the tape. I will send a photo as it doesn't look like mine set up, not attached to battery yet, it has the internal 2 d batteries in it.

Nope, the wire has just been wedged along the back to keep it a bit neater I think. Doesn't have to be attached to anything except the knob and the tape. I don't like the new bit that clips to tape as it is useless on my rope so I just use one of the Croc clips from an old dead one. Just the same, all fencemans connect the same. Screw under knob and attach to fence. What you do with the dangly wire is up to you!

Oh yes I have ordered a clip as thought that would have a better and more secure clip to the tape. Thanks for that, it almost looks like the bunched up bit at the back is a clip. I am trying to troubleshoot why it only works if I grab and squeeze the tape, is it supposed to make a 'click click' sound when its live? It is very dry so might need a longer earth stake maybe..

AFAIK the clicky sound is mainly when the fence is shorting out on something eg vegetation touching it or someone setting it up such that the electric tape is touching a wooden fence post etc. Also check your energiser for settings. Mine is a different brand to yours and it has 2 settings either 1sec or 3sec intervals, if it's set on 3sec intervals you can sometimes touch it and not get zapped.

Ah, I am used to the clicky sound from previous yard, where it was attached to the mains. Thanks, that's useful re settings, to turn it on you just turn the black nob at the bottom clockwise until it clicks, I just turn it all the way round, so maybe that is the setting then, will see if it makes a difference if I just turn it part way round. I did water the ground first, and its a shaded grassy area.
