Hi all,
Im thinking of possibly setting up an instagram account that talks about info ab horses whether thats caring, horse news or just info in general (roads, choosing livery yards, feeding) ect.

Do you think its doable or it is too popular to do? I will defo doing my research each time so I misinform those who may read it but tbh this is more of a random project. Im not really sure if theres any point or if I should I set up a different horse related content account?

Is it worth it?

Jokes aside, the question is what you want to achieve.

Literally, it’s doable to set up an IG account on anything at all. It’s only worth it based on what your goal is. Are you doing it in the hopes it’ll eventually look good on a CV/UCAS? Or in the hopes it’ll prove financially viable?

I think you’d have to go into this kind of enterprise with no expectations of gaining any followers, as there’s lots of information out there on IG already, and most of the popular accounts seem to be personal horse accounts first, information accounts second. You’d probably also need to specialise, or, at least, not provide the usual, basic information - i.e. new science, current events - though it could be possible to do something tailored towards novices.

That said, if you enjoy researching about equine science, such an account might be a good way to organise your notes and the like.

Yeah, to be honest, I dont really know why. I'm just looking at somethig to do or spread info but of course would use it for a CV to share experience of this sort of social media area. I like to do it on my FB page where I share info or spread BHS or those -insert horse breed- society accounts. Suppose it is just a hobby! I'll defo look into making something thats not the usual! Thank you so much ?

Do you actually know enough about horses for it to be worth setting yourself up as some sort of expert?
I wouldn't say expert hence why I was thinking of doing the basics but another poster said that it might be worth doing something more specific. I am considering maybe novice targeted if its doable but of course, while I know what I do and don't know, research will always be first. I want to be really careful and not get carried away with the fun of course ??

Well you are the only person I know of who knows what they don't know. Most people have an idea of some areas they know they need more experience of but don't actually know what they don' t know.

Yeah, I mean like things I am aware of but next to nothing knowledge like insurance and physio- I dont really know much apart from what they both do. I wouldnt feel confident or comfortable posting about things where I know my knowledge is limited. Apologies, I worded my reply quite weirdly

I think unless you a true expert in the field or hugely knowledgeable, then you’d just be opening a huge can of worms.
Yeah, I really want to make sure I am careful as possible ?? might just do basic content till I feel more confident in other areas.. I doubt ill start right now but thank you so much ?

Based on other posts, OP is only 16 ☺️

It’s not something I would personally follow, but you could do a fun sort of account aimed at younger people, covering how to muck out, how to groom etc. i think doing anything too complicated (nutrition, saddle fit, anatomy or similar) without being qualified could be difficult though!

Oh gosh, for sure!! If I ever go into those areas and qualify, I would definitley go and steer the page towards that. But yes, for now its more of the general stuff like hacking, breed facts, bedding ect.

Everyones whos said something have made valid points. I just hope I can do it. All for fun ?

I did it at your age with youtube videos for very basic stuff like mucking out. Didn't last very long and theyre now a source of entertainment for my friends! Was fun tho - do it for fun but dont set yourself up as an expert unless you have the qualifications.
