Can anyone offer advice on whats involved with setting up a mains energiser?

Up until now I have always run a battery energiser for my electric fence with no problems, however a new pony has taken to barging through this and I'm thinking a mains energiser would give a bigger shock and teach him some respect.

We have a mains power source close to the paddock, but how does everything connect up?

Its basically the same. With mine I fixed the energiser to the electric point, then ran lead out cable from it to an earth stake and then more leadout cable from it to the fence point. Its all pinned permanently and I connect the leadout cable to the fence with a big crocodile clip. If you ned to cross the grass with the cable the you can thread it through a bit of hosepipe and bury it (across gateways. Its very easy.

Thanks Dotty1. Sounds simply enough. Just need to drill a hole in the barn for the leadout cable.

What energiser do you use? There seems to be a lot of different types of main energisers available and I don't want to get caught short with a rubbish one (otherwise I might as well stick with my battery).

I use Hotline from MoleValley Farmers and MY OH MY do you get a bang!!! lol It's the best thing i ever done. My dad touched it by mistake and was knocked to the floor and my friends ex touched it and it knocked him across the field.
