Settling In

I have had my horse a couple of months now and would say that he has settled well on the yard and with his new routine and stable mates, but as he has not had a correctly fitting saddle hacking is still new to him and he is always on pins when out and about.

Just wanted your experiences with your new horses have they/did they do the same or were they on pins? and wondered how long everyone thinks it takes a horse to settle in a new home.

Obviously it depends on the horse to an extent, but I have always been a firm believe in get on and crack on - no room for bad behaviour! But I wouldnt be making excuses for a horse MONTHS in, maybe weeks but not months - they aren't stupid, he'll know you aren't out to kill him by now and if you have hacked more than once he'll know there aren't horse eating monsters behind every leaf!
