After the loss of my lad I am still trying to peice together the problems that occured, and he was diagonsed with severe colitis...he also had a bleed into abdomen which was cloting his entire back end swelled beyond belief incl his sheath, was still very loose in his droppings, extreamly high heart rate that did go upto 108..at one point, now I know he has gone I have come to terms with that hard as it seems still but I never did get a full answer from vets and it's too late to ask them now isnt it?

But from what I have mentioned here what would you put it down to? I havent had the chapter closed if you know what I mean I know he was in a hell of alot of pain and basically told me that he had enough so knew I had made the right decision...

Sorry but I would really like to know your thoughts on this??

Kezz, I don't think it's too late to ask your vets anything you want to know. When my horse died from grass sickness, at Langford Vet Clinic (which had the most caring staff I have ever met), I was just too shocked and upset at the time to ask all I really wanted to know. I was asking them questions weeks afterwards, and they were fine with it. I don't know anything about colitis, but it sounds like you did the best thing for your boy, as I did for mine. All the best.
 
Hi, I have just lost my 5 yr old homebred sec b to severe colitis, he was taken to leehurst as he also had a very high heart rate over 100 amongst many other symptoms, we were told on the night he had a twisted gut and his organs were shutting down, like you far to upset to ask lots of question on the night, only yesterday we got the res of the post mortam which they said it was severe colitis, apart from saying it was a bacteria that caused it not much wiser, we are going to get our vet to explain the post mortam results when we get them in writing, if we get any other answers will post on here, like you really want to know why and how it hapened.
 
I thought Colitis was highly infectious? No other horses affected?

Sorry to hear you lost your pony. Devastating. We lost our pony to colic on the 16th. Still awaiting her post mortem results
