My rising 3 yr old trad cob has started scouring badly. He has just started getting hay on a daily basis and this may be the cause, although the vet has been and discovered a temperature so he is on anti biotics, steroids, and probiotics . The thing is I don't carry much in the way of food stuffs except stud and youngstock which is not good for him at the moment. I have been giving him his huge amount of drugs with hi fi, and a small amount of barley rings which I was advised to use. I am now not sure this is suitable, but I don't want to swap and change him now, any advice , thanks.

I would get some speedibeet to give him with the hi fi, he will be losing vital fluids and by giving him a soaked fibre based feed you will be helping him stay hydrated which is so important.

One of mine is dehydrated, not through scouring, getting fluids into him is proving to be tricky, you can check out my thread in NL "You can lead your horse to water" for ideas of how to keep his fluid up, it is on about page 2 now.
