Severe shoulder injury, unusual

My mare came in from the field on Thursday with a suspected shoulder injury.
She is weight-bearing but holding the leg very straight, pivots on it rather than take a step, reluctant to bend the leg, and if she does then she drags the toe.
Vet has xrayed elbow but not an easy area to xray apparently. She has had a whopping dose of iv bute, and bute twice a day since, but no improvement at all.
Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences? I am worried sick. Thanks

I had similar late one night, vet came and wasn't happy with him so we cross-tied over night so he wouldn't go down and make it worse (never done this before and initially thought how cruel!), xrayed at the horspital the next day as he wanted decent xrays and found to have a hairline fracture elbow, he had to be cross-tied for weeks. Unfortunately he did slip his cross- ties one night and caused the fracture to get worse requiring surgery and a plate fitted, but he made a full recovery to a happy hacker.

When is the vet coming back, did they xray the whole leg? Have the examined higher up, neck and back?
Maybe post this in club house for more viewings and opinions?

I had a yearling which was kicked on the shoulder, was lame for months, but there was gradual improvement. He eventually mended but there was always a dent. He lived out 24/7 vet wanted him in but we had nowhere to put him at the time.

Thanks for your reply - vet is coming back on Tuesday, but will phone me first thing Monday for an update.
There is nothing to see further down the leg, and no pain on palpation so only elbow was xrayed. Examined neck and back. She's not in cross ties, I don't see how she will stand up if she attempts to lie down.

I would get the vet out earlier, thursday to tuesday is a long time if painkillers aren't working, but that is just my opinion. I am no expert and there are some on here but they don't always read this thread.
