Hi
I have owned my horse for just over a year now. I bought her from a dealer so her past is unknown. She has been an angel up until I moved yards. I was at a yard with just one other horse, but now I have moved to a 4 horse (including her) where she is the only mare. The problem I am having is she gets severely stressed when any of the horses leave the yard, she sweats runs round, bites and hits her head against the stable walls. It is horrible to watch and I just don't know how to help her. She constantly calls for the other horses and would run through me if she had a chance paying no attention to me trying to calm her down, as soon as which ever horse has come back she instantly calms down. I have her on oestress but I really want to do groundwork so she trusts me, and realises life with out the other horses for a little while isn't to bad. I am willing to try anything to have my happy mare back. Any advice would be massively appreciated. Thanks

Hi Molly Im sorry to hear your having such awful problems with your mare. My mare acted a little similar to yours maybe not as bad when I first bought her. She did take a while to settle. Maybe including some Magnesium may help. My mare was worse when in season but she did get better the longer Ive had her. Clicker training could help and like you said groundwork. You didnt say how old she is. Have you tried lungeing her while the other horses leave the yard, maybe enlist one of the other owners to help. Hope she settles give her time at the new yard it may take a while. Good luck.
