Hello from a newbie!!

Just wondered if anyone had heard of this stallion and could give opinions? My mare is by this guy and an internet search suggested he was a fairly good quality dressage stallion- as I know nothing about dressage or breeding I wondered if anyone could help?!?! An injury has cut my mares career short so thinking of loaning her out as a broodmare but wanted to gather info before advertising her.

Thanks in advance

He was a Trakehner approved Thoroughbred stallion, now dead (a couple of years ago I think). He was German bred and I think might have been Oldenburg approved too and probably the other German registries, although I only know the Trakehner bit. He has sired graded sons the one I know is Donaufischer and was a good Tb influence although came to Trakehner breed late in life.

Whats the bottom half of your mare's pedigree?

Hi volatis, thanks for that info. That would make sense as my mare is a branded Oldenburg, originally from the continent. I think her dam's side is predominantly Hanoverian, I cant remember any names off the top of my head but will have a look later. I appreciate the info- I'm just trying to find the best way to 'pitch' her in her advert as I want to find her the best home possible, do you think that aiming her towards dressage breeders would be the best way to go?

Really depends on the dam side of her pedigree. Post it up here when you can. Sounds like she could be of interest to dressage breeders depending on the nature of her injury, whetehr she has been or could be graded etc etc

Thanks so much for the help- I'll post her dams side later on when I get home. I dont believe she has been graded- what does the grading process entail?

Her injury is an underlying sacro-illiac problem- my vet, physio and osteo all agree that she is fine to be bred from but as she is fairly narrow to keep the stallion size to a minimum. I'm hoping this wont affect people being interested in her too much. She is totally sound and lives out well but just cant stand up to competitive work. I'd love to breed from her myself but dont have the time, knowledge or facilities to do so unfortunately.

Just checked in her passport- on her dams side the sires are San Carlos, San Fernando, Arthy, Don Carlos, Loewen As, Lugano II and Ehrenschild- does anyone know anything about these guys?? The dams are all prefixed with Hauptstutbuch. Most of them are Hannovarian and the others are Selle Francais or Westphalian- do you think this makes her a good candidate for dressage breeding?

Thanks again for the help.

Hauptstutbuch is main stud book so it means the mares were graded but not premium mares.
The San Carlos you mean I assume is this one

Don Carlos I know of - old fashioned dual purpose blood line. Sire line of Demonstrator and Dollar Girl and Drosselklang.
Never heard of San Carlos I'm afraid.
Lugano II is again a very old name, sire line of one of my favourites Lanthan.

It sounds like quite old fashioned lines, which have been lightened up by breeding her dam to sevillano. There is no reason she wouldn't breed dressage horses on her pedigree but it wouldn't be a very 'modern' or commercial pedigree so I think more relevance will be on the stamp of the mare herself.

Yep thats the San Carlos in her passport. I guess she's maybe not as desirable on her bloodlines as I had hoped. She always got a lot of compliments regarding her movement and the vet was very complimentary about her conformation so hopefully these things will swing in her favour with regard to finding her the right home.

Just out of interest- her name is also prefixed Hauptstutbuch so does this mean anything regarding her being graded or not?

Thanks again, feel very out of my depth with regards to dressage and breeding so the help is much appreciated!

Yep, means she was graded. There should be something stamped on her passport about it - I know where it would be on as Trakehner passport as they note their grading scores in it but don't know what the Oldenburgs do. You should contact the Oldenburg verband and ask them for her grading scores. They will need her life number.

Also just found that she has an H after her name which according to the website means she was graded into the main studbook- does that mean anything special? Sorry for all the questions and thanks again.

I'm absolutely rubbish with putting up photos- also wouldn't that be advertising?! Feel free to pm for more info though if anyone wishes.
