Has anyone tried doing this? I'm thinking of the half pad 'collars', firstly to help prevent rubs in the hair at the back of the saddle, and secondly because the prolite pads are massive and look a bit unsightly under my saddle, plus they are black when my saddle is brown (obviously not so important). Can anyone think of any reasons for and against?

I'd be worried that my saddle wasn't fitting properly if you are considering this, if the back is rubbing it must not be balanced correctly.

There are some sheepskin half pads out there that allow adjustments. I would go for a ready made one, not cheap but worth it.

Thanks Vanner, I am worried the saddle isn't fitting properly but that's another issue, i'm dealing with that. The thing is more about the cut of the prolite pad - I really like it's cushioning properties, I just don't like the way it is shaped, and they only make one shape inthe multi riser, plus it is black! I could use it under a numnah I suppose, but then there would be no real point to using a numnah at all.

*sneaking in*...Mattes Correction pad. Prolite isn't my fave, and as you say, is cut rather huge for some saddles. Sewing anything on a pad, on the underside, is a slight risk full stop as the stitching may rub. Rubbing at the back could be caused by instability in the saddle fit, depends how severe it is.

I know, I really should have gone for the Mattes one, that would have been the perfect solution. Hindsight is a marvellous thing! I would get one if I hadn't have forked out almost £70 for the Prolite... grrr!
