Wondering if anyone has any ideas. A few weekends ago my sis and I were out on a hack, having a nice fast canter on a field track. Got to the end and needed to pull up. This took a bit of doing as Saf was getting rather excited and I had to pull harder than I have done in a long while. On stopping, she started shaking her head from side to side a bit, something I've never seen her do before. She continued to do this on and off for a few minutes afterwards. I thought something may have stung her, got something in her nose / ear etc or maybe hurt her mouth. Couldn't see anything and on return home had a look at the corners of her mouth and couldn't see anything that would be troubling her.
Anyway, not had anything since then until today. We haven't done much cantering recently, but I am trying to get her used to it as she gets very excited and bounds off in an unbalanced canter (if you can call it that). Clearly more work to be done here. However today I really had to pull her up and she did the shaking head thing again, albeit very briefly this time.
Any ideas? Like I say we've not done much cantering for years as our last place didn't have any bridleways we could canter along, and we never did much schooling. She's in a French link eggbutt snaffle and a cavesson. Could I be hurting her or is she just messing me about wanting to tank off? She's totally fine otherwise, had her teeth done in November, just very forward going!
