I haven't posted on here for a long while, so hello to all .

I am considering trying to get someone to share my horse with me, but I am not too sure if it is sensible. I have recently got a new job which will not begin until the last two weeks of October, but the nature of the work could mean I will be unable to ride very much during this time.

Previously about a year ago a friend of mine rode my boy a couple of times a week, but my boy had a bad back as she was a bit too heavy for him. My fault, I thought she was lighter than she was. That luckily is all sorted now. The other problem was that she let my boy gallop home and it has taken a long time for me get him out of this, but again we have overcome this........ !

So would it be a good idea to look for an experienced lightweight sensible sharer ?

Thanks for reading

If you want to keep him in work through the winter, then go for it! It could be a good way to lighten your load a bit, and maybe give you a chance to get more riding done once you're working, if you don't have to go up every night.

I think a sharer would be a great help to you. Not only to keep your lad in work through the winter, but to give you a couple of days off, I'm sure you will appreciate the time to yourself when your working loads!

Put up an add, and "vet" the potienal sharers. Make it clear what you expect and what not to do.

Thanks peeps for your advice. It will certainly be easier if i know someone else is going to be able to keep him going for me during the winter, and I will be very picky about who will be sharing him with me!

be very very picky and keep a very close eye on things!!

when i went to uni my (so called) friend took my mare on as a share basis as she could not afford all the costs of a full loan. The idea was that my mare would get exercised. After 2 months I took Teqi back off her and bought her back to my old yard to live out 24/7. My 'friend' was riding her once a week at a push, as she was paying for bedding Teqi was getting a tiny square of shavings in the corner of the stable and the hay she was providing was disgusting so my mare wouldnt eat it.

so just to warn you, some people appear lovely but make sure you get references, a contract (so you can take your horse back at any time - when stated within the contract) and make sure your horse stays where you can keep an eye on things!
