It's too windy/wet/flooded/miserable to ride, but Ellie's muddy, tangled tail is depressing me, so I'm wondering whether I should wash it this morning instead of riding! I'm trying to help it grow thicker, so am worried that by constantly detangling I will pull the hairs out, but equally being plastered in mud cant be helping it. She's not been turned out much as the paddock is underwater...what do you think?

Wash it, put a load of coat shine in it, plait it (as in one long plait, all the way down...)

I'm well practised - our school is like a lake and if I ride without his tail in a plait it gets full of sand/water! Keeps it much cleaner and also saves brushing every day

I have washed it, and am going to comb it out nicely later and plait it, as suggested...having never done this before, do you leave the plait in overnight, or only put it in when you go riding/turn out?
