I am asking on behalf of a friend (not close friend, a lady at my yard )who is not a member on here.

She would like opinions on whether Shana's is any good as a livery yard, and what people's experiences were both good and bad. Please post or PM if you prefer, and please let me know how recently you were there.

She's thinking of moving there because they do Parelli and this is something that she practises. I don't think anyone else at our yard practises it besides her, and whilst it is a case of each to their own, I think that is the pull of the place (Shana) for her. I'll admit that I had no idea that Shana had done that re Parelli.

All experiences welcome. Please no comments on Parelli. I don't practise it myself, I very much believe in common sense and adapting to the individual horse, but it something that my friend had decided is important to her, but she's aware she shouldn't have that clouding her judgement at the expense of her horse's happiness.

Thanks!

OMG! I used to ride there from boarding school when I was 9 years old!!! Haven't thought about it or heard about it since then (and that is nearly 24 years ago!) I seemed to like it then!!!

Sorry - no use whatsoever, but brought back a lot of happy memories for me!

I would normally say bargepole as above, but if you are at the yard that i'm thinking you perhaps are, i would say she would be perfectly suited there. It's relatively cheap, bit run down but the school is nice and the hacking is good. The turnout is awful but depending on the horse i think it suits some ok.

I went there yonks ago for a jumping competition. No idea what it is like as a livery yard now?!

I went past on Sat night (about 10pm) and it appeared that horses were turned out in the bit I warmed up in yonks ago eating hay and with all the lights on. I thought that was strange??

When I lived in the area I was also warned off Shana, if you search High Wycombe in the search bar one of my old (very lengthy!!) threads has loads of yard suggestions in the area (and also the ones to avoid!)
Good luck :)

I'm a current livery at Shana. It's true, the grazing isnt great but it's liveable now and the other facilities / hacking make up for that. A new owner is about to take over the yard (next few weeks) and the current yard manager is being retained. She is being given the freedom to manage the yard properly ( she's experienced, dedicated and very helpful!) and the new owner is an experienced land-owner who is planning lots of changes to sort out the grazing issues and improve the quality. We do sometimes use the outdoor arena with hay for turnout overnight when horses cant be grazed for whatever reason - better than having to be stabled in alot of cases. For example, my mare had slightly crumbling feet and she comes in when it's particularly wet for a few days on the trot so she doesnt stand on wet fields for too long.

Parelli is a presence on the yard in that several liveries practise it and regular clinics are held. There's a David Lichman clinic in the middle of July, not sure what else is planned but instructors visit regularly. It's also hoped that Naphill Riding Club will be able to hire the school as a venue for clinics and shows. There is an indoor arena, an outdoor covered one plus a roundpen. There is direct access out into the woods for hacking, nominal annual fee payable to the National Trust of £10. The livery charges are great, especially for this area, and considering the facilities. There's a great group of people here at the moment and we're a happy bunch! I am happy for you to pm me if you want any more detailed info. It has suffered from a dubious reputation before but trust me, not any more ;)
