Hopefully I've found a sharer for my mare, and am now wondering whether its best to draw up some kind of agreement.

I use the term 'share' loosely, no one else rides her (I just don't have time) so this person has flexibility to choose the days and to vary them according to their schedule. I'm asking for a nominal amount of money, my priority is to have her ridden. There are also no chores involved.

This person will need to be responsible for her tack as my yard isn't secure enough to leave the tack there.... So definitely would want something in writing about that. What about insurance, I don't have rider/personal accident insurance on her policy, do sharers usually take out their own?

If anyone has an example agreement that they could send me please pm :-)

Try the BHS website for an example agreement then amend to what you want. I'd state that the rider needs at least 3rd party insurance incase she has an accident involving someone else and rider only insurance too. With regards to your tack, get some good quality photos of it, and an itemised list saying item, make, colour, quantity and condition and get her to sign it :)

BHS have a sample loan agreement that you can download from their web site. Just put everything down so you cover yourself.

As for insurance suggest that your loaner (or make it a condition on the loan agreement) that they join the BHS as a gold member this will give them third party liability when they are riding the horse and also accident cover. Will cost them £60 per year.
