I'm thinking of finding a sharer for my horse but no idea what to ask for as a contribution. I've been looking at other ads to try and decide on it and it ranges from help with mucking out to £50 per week (all shares, no full loans or anything)

Now I think I'll be providing the sharer with a pretty good deal, there are a lot of shares out there that say light hacking only as horse has had an injury or something.

Horse is stabled on full livery (so help with stable duties is not possible for sharer) in Kent in the middle of the most wonderful hacking. Plenty of very quiet lanes and off road hacking on bridleways and hucking estate and toll rides as well. Local competition centre in hacking distance. Livery yard is immaculate and has large arena with softrack surface, showjumps and I think arena mirrors going in soon. So riding available to sharer would be superb.

Horse is a 14 year old 16.2 ex eventer (I now showjump him but no reason why he couldn't event again - I just don't do solid fences!) Totally sound and a real schoolmaster. I wouldn't want a novice as I've put a lot of work into him, but he'd suit someone wanting a rc horse or something to compete in any discipline or maybe a competent rider who's lost their confidence as he'll really look after you and not put a foot wrong.

I think I'd be providing a super horse to someone. Days are completely negotiable, but I want someone 2 days a week - could flex to 1 or 3 days it really doesn't matter. The only problem I can see is if someone wanted to comepte a lot as I'll be competing him too. Of course I'm happy to let someone compete as long as they don't expect it every week. But every other week would probably be feasible.

What do you think I should be asking for this? I'm not after a sharer to get him fit as he already is, nor to free up my time as I have plenty, but I think it'd be good for him and the money and extra time would be nice alhough I'm in absolutely no hurry to find anyone and if he never gets a sharer then I really don't mind. I haven't found antoher ad for a sharer for a horse of his calibre s have nothing to compare it to. Think I'd find it hard to find someone?

Its difficult to say, most sharers can't afford a horse which is why we don't have one, for 2 days a week even with fabulous riding i would probably only pay £25 a week.

ok, but that would make it £75 per week so even I think that's ridiculous. Think that rule would work for DIY but not for full livery!

For that I'd probably look to pay a bit more than the average although you have to bear in mind the kind of rider you are looking for may not be so readily available either!

I wonder if you have a local uni, they may have a riding club if so - good supply of decent riders with no horses perhaps? But also no money! So I guess it depends what your priority is - is it to get another pair of experienced hands on side or is it help with costs?

That's probably no help at all, sorry...
