I'm more of a quick flick over with a brush kind of person, bridle and saddle areas done and we are good to go.

But my horse has become a bit scurffy and itchy. I gave him a bath yesterday which he definately appreciated even in the bad weather! So he is now nice and clean again.

So will have to up my grooming routine. Any tips?

I just pick out feet, quick flick off, use plastic curry for tail and any muddy bits, comb mane and brush face! Just a couple of mins. Occasionally il give him a going over with a rubber curry then a body brush, and paint his tootsies!

My lovely boy has had some "issues" with grooming (I've had him 8 months). He enjoys plastering himself in mud (he's not rugged and out by day at the mo). We start with me donning a pair of disposable gloves, and I go all over him with my fingertips, scratching off the mud very gently (he actually appears to like having his mane and tail done, which I do gently with one of those mane and tail brushes with a handle thingy). Then, I use one of those magic block things if there are little bits I can't pick off, then I very gently go over him with a plastic curry comb - I use my fingertips to get bits of dried mud off his belly, then I will use a flicky dandy brush, very gently, then the body brush. At the moment, I am hand grooming his legs. I can get him reasonably presentable in an hour.

With my last horse, it was a quick, rough once over with a dandy brush..... Current horse is tolerating it all much better now. I am working on the premise that when someone is kidnapped and kept captive they start developing a rapport with their kidnapper ;)

All mine have beautiful glossy coats so they just get a quick flick with the brush, I do spend time doing their manes and tails. Very therapeutic .

My favourite thing is having my girl absolutely gleaming for everything! Once or twice a week I start with giving her tail a squirt of showsheen, and then leave to dry in a bit while I'm grooming her. Feet picked out, and a stiff brush to wipe out any muddy bits, and to brush of the outside wall. Curry comb scrub all over, face, ears legs everything. Then either a long bristled Flicky brush, or a body brush depending on the weather and what we're doing to take off the excess hair and dirt. I have a noodle MIT thing that I swipe over her neck body and bum to take any dust off. Then I go back and separate her tail out, either with my fingers or with a oster tail brush.

Not that I'm obsessive about it at all..... :D

My routine is; rubber curry comb, flick brush, hard brush (it's like a water brush, I find it's better than a body brush), then mane tail and finally feet. That would be my full groom before riding, I then give her a quick brush over again before putting to bed. So she would usually be groomed all over twice a day.

Spray tail (and mane if necessary- one of mine is hogged :) )leave to soak in a bit whilst I do everything else (not sure this has a dramatic effect but I like to think it does!)

Plastic curry for really muddy bits, then dandy brush. Body brush on any clipped bits and face. Then pick out hooves and paint. Then will give the tail a good seeing too.

The tail is my obsession, if I keep on top of them, it takes less time. If I leave them for longer, the mare in particular seems to be able to make a right mess out of it! :(

I love grooming, particularly Rocket, now that I don't ride him, I use that time to make a fuss out of him :)

Mare gets very hairy these days - so rubber curry comb is a must. Coat change means I have been swallowing copious amounts of hair for ages!!

I only groom her once of twice a week - she isn't riden. I spend a lots of time doing my mares legs....they get scurfy otherwise and I like to check for injuries. Do this with a rather soft dandy I have.

Like to bath her at this time of year as soon as weather allows. I also like the conditoning sprays, stops the mud sticking.

I like to use a mit for her face, she loves a good scratch with it.

Pick out feet, scrub over with plastic curry, brush over with dandy brush and then body brush to polish off, then I comb his mane and tail. He loves to plaster himself in mud on a daily bases, even does head stands to get it all over his face so I'm there for the best part of an hour trying to get him clean.

I don't tend to bother unless he has mud on him. Luckily he's pretty clean anyway and lives out so I don't need to groom much :)

Probably once per week at a guess. He's not ridden either but if he was I'd groom before each ride.

I have a variety of different routines depending on what I am doing / where I am doing / how much time I have.

Today, I started with a rubber curry comb on neck, body, bottom etc and followed by body brush.

I then massaged his back for about ten minutes and went over again with a body brush.

I brushed his legs with a dandy brush and picked his feet out.

This is probably the groom I do most, the other ones include washing feet, doing mane etc.

Mine likes to lie in poop and is molting so I give her a curry comb all over, then use a body brush all over to get rid of any loose hairs. I comb through her tail and mane, pick out feet and oil them. I do this once a day apart from picking out feet, i do that twice a day. It takes me about twenty minutes at most but she always looks good and tidy and shiny :p yay shiny pony!!! :) x

Ohh I love grooming :D Ha. I think it stems from being 8 years old at a riding school, grooming and mucking out for rides.

Feet first, scrubbed off if need be, then picked out, hoof grease on. Then mane and tail sprayed, left to sink in. Scrub all over with a rubber curry comb in circles, then body brush all over, circles and lay coat flat, then flick off with long dandy brush. Face then brushed with face brush. Then legs with dandy brush, feathers combed. Then finally mane and tail combed through.

This is the before ride groom, takes about 15 mins or just everyday if not riding. After ride he gets sponged off if needed and body brush goes all over again. And tootsies picked out.

When I have time he gets a proper groom, trimmed etc.

I really am a total pony patter, I find it relaxing.

You don't want to know about the mucking out routine, or the tack cleaning :p I love it. Wish I was a groom lol.

Spring/Summer: Before riding, I pick out feet, comb out mane and tail, brush body and legs all over with dandy brush and get any patches of mud off with a plastic curry comb and then I brush his face with the body brush. After riding, I give him a quick flick over where his saddle has been, and brush round his ears to get rid of any marks from the bridle. I also pick out his feet again if we have been out hacking.

Autumn/Winter: Nearly the same as summer routine except he is fully clipped (except legs) for hunting so I brush him all over with the body brush and just use the dandy brush on his legs.

:)

Remove mud or stable stains.
A good scrub with a rubber curry/grooming stone to get ride of loose hair and other stuff. (She loves this bit :D )
A good 'all over' with 2 flick brushes - one in each hand to get the stuff off that the curry brought up.
Brush through the mane/ tail with detangler
Brush out the feather and pick feet out.

On return, remove saddle marks and put the tail back in plaits. (It's a very full, floor length, white tail and the plaits keep it manageable and out of the mud and other stuff..)

Pick out feet, plastic curry comb and dandy brush for muddy bits, rubber curry comb on non clipped bits (she is casting loads just now!), body brush all over, spray of mane and tail conditioner all over, horsey hairbrush (no idea what its called :o) for mane/tail/forelock, face brush and some conditioning cream stuff for her hooves! :)

I feel absolutely slovenly now!

Mine are rugged and clipped in winter, and live in - obviously with turnout. They compete at least once a week, and mare is grey so gets bathed the night before each unless the shows are back to back/ two days apart.

I don't actually groom......I will whip mud off after turnout, but they have full neck rugs on. Other than that and brushing legs before boots/bandages go on, that's about it. I do run my hands under saddle patch and under girth area and pick out feet though.

1. remove rug
2. look to see if theres anywhere the mud hasnt gotten
3. root around in grooming kit for brushes
4. walk around yard picking up brushes that were dropped on way from tack room to stable
5. rubber curry comb mud off
6. wipe off thick covering of dried mud and hair that is now covering me
7. spray mane and tail
8. pick out feet
9. brush through mane and tail
10. body brush everywhere

Oh I love grooming. I share a fatty black and white mare who loves to get as disgusting as possible... She also loves to wee in her beautifully thick tail!
So... Get rid of mud and stables stains using stuff brush and maybe a sponge for those tough poo stains. Rubber brush in circular motions to get rid of the cost she's throwing. Body brush all over. Brush, comb, spray (and wash if needed!!) mane tail and feathers. Eyes and nose cleaned, bum wash too! 30-1hour I guess...
This isn't every day ... But her owner and I love to brush and fuss so she gets this treatment 4 times a week, and a good brush and comb over every day she doesn't get the full works.

I have this metal comb that doubles as a sweat scraper! I use that as its brilliant for moulting and getting the mud off. Then I use a dandy brush all over after that. Pick out feed. Spray mane and tail in mane and tail and brush through. Once a week I spray her with equimins groomer helps to repel the dust. I then clean her eyes with baby wipes. She doesn't really like her face bring brushed so get white blaze is normally brown :(

For the mare, pick feet out, then it's metal curry comb to get her winter coat out, bit of rubber curry combing, then a brush with the dandy brush, main / tail and then polish her hooves.

I'm a little bit OCD about brushing I do everything in a very specific order and thoroughly! I do rubber curry >> dandy brush just on body >> body brush all over >> brush main and tail with comb >> pick feet.

I have to do it in that order because I'm an odd ball :D

I normally groom as follows- shedding blade (when moulting), dandy brush all over, body brush on face and sensitive bits, pick out feet, comb mane and tail (easy on my TB as she hardly has any!). Then spend the rest of the day with itchy/ runny eyes and nose :(

Hi,

After removing rug he needs a flick over with a stiff brush - not too much 'cause he's chestnut and has pretty fine hair and a trace clip - flick over with body brush - pick feet - give his mane a brush - got great new style brush takes moments rather than minutes - quick flick over of tail on off we go.

Once a week he has a good going over but generally doesn't take long. On a good day about 5mins - on a chilled day about an hour.

:)

Really depends how mucky he is! :D

Pick out feet first. At the moment he's got a rug on so it's just his legs that are muddy, as rule so quick brush of mane and tail then some conditioner stuff. Brush all over with stiff brush (but not his face - only a baby soft, quick flick!) and as he's quite fluffy where not clipped, a good go over with the Furminator. If the mud is dry, I'll brush that out and 'polish' the bits where I did the Furminator. Finally, give the mane and tail a final brush through.

That's in an ideal world! In the holidays, when I have time to go up every day, that is the routine most days. In term time, he doesn't get 'done' in the week (unless one of the yard girls does me the favour) except for feet and a quick brush round the tack area, if required.

All out 24/7

Grooming routine:

At this time of year I have a shedding blade in one pocket, hairbrush, hoofpick and knife in others.

Horses form an orderly queue, or barge in, depending who wants to be brushed most. No halters, no nothing, they come to me if they want, and leave when they want.

I'll leave the tips to others, I only brush properly when I ride.
