Took my horse out for a lone hack today for the first time in months and also probably about the 5th time since I've had him. Can't say I particularly enjoyed it as he was very anxious and didn't settle down all the way around, I had a buck, lots of sideways and snorting (started off by another horse ahead off me that thankfully turned off another way) and just generally being a giraffe x dragon. Was one of those hacks when you feel like breaking into song when you turn the corner and see the yard ;)

But am glad I did it and am planning on keeping on top of it now until it becomes second nature.

So what has everyone else been up to this weekend that deserves a virtual pat on the back? :)

Eeeerm, nope nothing....I played around with new camcorder and got pretty vids and pics of the babies in the field if that counts lol!

Congrats with yours!

Had major facial surgery Thursday to correct short and twisted jaw. Came home yesterday all wired shut and managed to walk to the field to see my gang. Might not sound an achievement but it felt like it!

Sat on the trap Behind my little boy for the first time yesterday. What a star!

So clever!

And because he's so pretty :)

In prep for our first Combined Training at the end of the month, I jumped my mare round a course of fences in a calm and collected manner, normally its like the Wall of Death

5 days after op to pin my broken ankle I managed to hop down the field on my crutches to see my boy and give him a good groom, so pleased he stood like a rock and doesn't seem bothered by gangly me hopping round and 2 weird metal sticks!

Big one for me - had my first sit and pootle down the lane on my 4 year old. He was a really good boy despite a big hedge cutting monster and a puddle that he was clearly going to drown in! Unfortunately no pics as hubby was busy with the kids. Only when I got off did I fess up to the trainer backing him that I hadn't as much as sat on a beachside donkey since I was pregnant with my son - who is now 5 =-O

1congrats to everyone so far on their achievements :)

Got onto my horse the other day expecting more tanking off and humping. He had a bad time with an ill fitting saddle, but we got a new one fitted and chiro to do his back. A little miffed that he had gotten out of riding for a wee holiday while he was off during this time, he decided to play up a lot after I got him going again with the new saddle.

On thursday however he was so relaxed and happy, hopped on and decided to give him a break so we hacked out across the fields. Came back into the school and did a little bit of work over poles, he was working long and low, a very chilled pony compared to the nightmare dragon/camel that was adamant he was still on his holidays!

I was only on for half an hour but wanted to end on a happy note. The well behaved boy got lots of pats for being so good :) Long may it last, I'd love to get him going well enough to do some ridden classes.

I achieved my first bit experiment with Frank - and discovered that he pulls my arms out in an eggbutt snaffle and really, really hates a Baucher! But, onwards and upwards I say - we did also achieve a half decent shoulder in without the engine dying and we managed to do a few steps of SI into big & forward trot on the diagonal and he was actually waiting for me to say "GO!" :D

That's quite an achievement for Frank and I, even if our ride in general was pants! :)

I've slowly started introducing some small cross poles (at the dizzy height of 40cm) to conquer my fear of jumping. Today I realised it was getting boring and jumped my first upright!
Next step - aim to try and feel confident doing that and slowly add the jump up to 50cm!

I took my young pony out for a 5 mile hack, escorted by my husband on a bicycle. We enjoyed ourselves. This was our longest ride out. I lost my bottle last year after a few falls, but managed to find it again eventually. My pony liked following the bike and it gave him more confidence. We usually go for small hacks on our own.

Congrats Karran, I lost my confidence with jumping after a huge fall a year ago when my loan horse dived out of a jump. I fell on top of the poll at an angle which meant it didn't fall off the cups = agony!!

My pony loves to jump however so if he goes well this week I am going to put up a few cross poles for him to try out again. He's been off for ages, probably will be as excited/nervous as i am :)

What a lovely thread...so nice to celebrate the "little" achievements that make our horsey life so worthwhile :) Congrats to everyone who's achieved something :D

I went out on a hack with a friend and we went round the ride where I had a nasty accident last year...first time I've been brave enough to go back there :D

I placed 6th out of 45 in the show jumping at BUCS champs (see threas in CR). Probably biggest achievement of my riding career and am still buzzing!

And took my ex racer jumping and he jumped all the spooky fillers first time :)

Can't quote as on my phone but thanks switcheroo! I love my little part loan horse. She loves jumping and clearly feels a bit disappointed she's not going high but also holds my hand going over them!
I've ridden for 20 years but can count the times I've jumped on one hand as I've always been a bit too nervous so this is huge for me :)

Not horsey but I did the Race for Life today and managed to run the whole thing and finished in just under 33 mins :)

Schooled my little cob mare and she tried so hard, despite being naturally downhill and not the bendiest of ponies. She's so merry and willing, she was really swinging along in her trot work, no rushing or leaning, just lovely and soft and round, really powering through from her hindquarters. She was practically floating along, so light I could have wept tears of joy! Such a huge improvement from last year. She's even offered a few strides of a lovely outline in canter, something he has never done before despite being much more balanced recently :) thrilled to bits with her! So am :D :D :D about like a lunatic!

(the youngster, on the other hand, was a little ******, and is going to end up going away for schooling I think :( )

I've just got back from the "nervous and novice" jumping competition. And yes, that was the name of it, not just a description of me! New venue for my fairly new horse and busiest one so far. She coped very well, even with the mares and foals that were hooning around in the next paddock.
1 down at 60cm and due to rider failure, 3 down in the 70cm. However, we jumped everything without feeling the need to stop and inspect each jump closely prior to going over it, unlike last time. It's all part of the experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
When we returned home, I put the horse out in the field, and it was three way squealing and nose blowing, as she filled the other two in on her adventures. So lovely to see them all happy.

I bought a 12hh welsh s.A for my two boys three weeks ago. Had him just over two weeks and its had its ups and downs so far!
Today I managed to ride him for a full 45 min schooling session in walk and trot, with no stubborn stopping ( his latest habit!) and doing lots of trotting poles. We were both sweating by the end ( I've only just started bk riding after a 12 year break to have kids etc!).
It was fab and I am buzzing!
It was hard not to push him too far though!
Well done for everyone else's achievements, big or small! X

My mare had her first gallop since having Tildren treatment in September and it was AMAZING! She just went for it, i cannot believe how fast she is :) and was so excitably after! Quite an achievement for us after spending last year coming back to work after lots of gradual building up and vet treatments for lameness. Best feeling in the world :)
Also very pleased today after going for another lovely hack, and when we got back I decided to get the weight tape out. It's been a while and she has always had quite a foal belly on her I have been working so hard on lifting. I thought my eyes were deceiving me until the tape read 525 after being 555 in march! And I know its the belly that has lifted due to her looking the best she has in a long time! :)

My little Arab had her saddle on for the fifth time in her life without moving a muscle or bating an eye then went for a lovely hack on the long reins.

I took the lovely Arabian to our first dressage comp - very low key, Intro B 2009 - at a posh venue, full of warmbloods and their diva-ish looking riders! The work, practice, lessons, fittening etc etc paid off: WE WON! Horsey was just fab and I am so proud of him- large red frilly and ditto silver-gilt cup icing on cake! He was a wrecked rescue horse two years ago, and I was not sure he would even be rideable, but he's blossomed, doing all sorts of things involving going cross country one way or another, but this was a real mental challenge for me. He's such a star! *Biggest Grin Ever*
O

Was kindly loaned a hefty creature and had my first long hack in a long time. It involved the others getting me to go fast by galloping off ahead (they know I want to really, but I lack confidence at speed). Was mega fun times :)

This : My biggest jump as to date, please no nasty CC i know what i need to work on :o I was proud as this is my friends TB and isn't the easiest mare to ride !
