How much would you expect a sharer to pay, to help in terms of exercising your horse a number of times a week. Just cause he needs caring for etc coz owner has another horse that needs more attention etc......

Just want an idea in terms of how much contribution you would want from a sharer, or as a sharer how much you would be willing to pay? Just cause neither of us have an idea of what to expect to do with it...... and just need a bit of guidance

Thank you

Think it would depend on the arrangement - what's expected of the sharer, or whether you just want horse exercising. I charge my sharer £25 per week for 2-3 days pw. I normally turn out, they come up once a day, muck out, help with a bit of poo picking & ride. The horse is an ex event schoolmaster & I give them a bit of help with their riding & they get the chance to do a bit of riding club competing if they wish.
Obviously if horse on part livery, etc, you might want to charge more.
Hope this helps

If I had a horse I was getting a sharer for because I did not have time for it and another horse, then nothing! They would be doing me the favour by caring for and riding the horse, why should they pay me too?

If however I needed a sharer because I couldn't afford the horse, then I would approach it as a part-loan situation and ask for a contribution based on my monthly costs and the number of days the sharer was doing.

My mare is on part loan and i charge £25.00 per week, which covers her stable, she also pays for the odd extra like road studs because she wanted them and an expensive feed that we go halves on.

She does her 7 days a week by choice and only comes up once a day because i am there anyway with my other horse i pick up the slack.

I have always based costs for my sharers on my daily basic expenses (feed and stable) for the horse and done a charge depending on the amount of days per week, so it would depend on the local costs really. Also 3 days would work out cheaper than 2 with me. I feel strongly about charging something but never charged for extra days when I was away or unable to go up.

Well it is me sharing someone elses horse, but she has said she is not sure how much of a contribution she wants/needs etc as its more that she wants someone to love him and exercise and care for him as she wants to focus on her younger SJ

She has said its up to me and see if she gets an idea etc, but I am not sure as I don't want to seme like I am taking advantage, but as its not a full/part loan, more like a friendly assisstance working both ways........ I dont know if part loan payment is expected etc?

Trying to do the right thing without paying out more than necessary (as being a student, money is thin!

hehe)

I have a sharer for one of my girls, she has her for 3 to 4 days a week, I charge her £27.50 it works out really well, she loves her like she is her own, and looks after her exceptionally well. I would offer around that figure, or ask her to work out how much it costs her on a monthly basis and charge you half (if that is how much of the week you are caring for and riding her horse)

I had a girl riding one of mine and I was hoping she would pay for the shoeing (otherwise I would have taken him out of work and taken his shoes off). Although we discussed this at the start it didn't work out. Horse was fully cared for by my groom but this person couldn't even be bothered to pick up a poo in his box on leaving or giving the tack a quick wipe after riding so called it a day.
If I had had my shoes paid for, horse groomed for riding, tack left in the state it was found ie clean and horse skipped out on leaving I would have been more than happy!

Last share I had split everything down the middle except vets bills and insurance. Costs and responsibilities.

It didn't work out due to me being mucked about and feeling like an unpaid groom, which is a shame as it was a nice (although obese) horse. But I did think it was a fair arrangement (on paper anyway). Hope this helps.

I pay £20 a month although round here it is cheap to keep horses. The horse is naughty or as I say "quirky" and so she needed experienced help. I do two days a week and any extra help needed. The lady I share with is lovely although we have had the occasional fallout due to me overlooking some things. However my deal came out of a long time family friendship so she knew and trusted me from the start.
