Ok, so im my search for a sharer ive had someone email and ask if would they still have to pay the £30.00 a week if they were unwell or couldnt get up for some reason.

Umm... ???

I think they would, I do with my share and we are both flexible so if the owner can't do a day we'll swap and if I can't do one of my days we'll swap :) I paid for when I went on holiday and couldn't ride and for when the horse was unrideable (sp?) through mud fever
Hope this helps :)

Umm... yes! Your horse has to be paid for regardless of whether you are well, available or otherwise occupied. You might be willing to reach agreement over pre arranged holidays (although my sharers pay regardless) but otherwise yes - they have to pay.

I'm sure if you are not well or want to be somewhere else you have to make suitable arrangements for your horse and that can include paying for someone else to do him. This is no different for a sharer. If they only want the convenience of turning up and riding without the rest of the horse ownership thing I'm afraid they need to stick to a riding school. (Where they will also be charged if they cancel at short notice!)

I have been a sharer and I wouldn't dream of even asking that question! Of course I'd expect to pay - particularly if the owner is only sharing because they need the financial contribution. Horses need paying for regardless of if we're sick or have something better to do.

I would be quite concerned about taking someone who asks this question on as a sharer as it would make me question their dedication / commitment / understanding of a horse's needs.

When i was paying to share the only time i didn't pay was when horse had 1 month off due to a injury caused by owner being an idiot. Even then i still went down and did everything but i refused to pay and to be honest if she hadn't tried to make me pay half vet cost i would of paid. It did end up being my one months notice as she kept trying to get vet money off me, which wasn't part of agreement and certainly not when she tried to jump barbed wire. In general i think rain or shine there or not you should pay as you have access to horse.
