I'll keep this brief, as I can. ;)

So got a new sharer small 12 year old boy.

2nd week of share didn't pay, ii asked the third week if she would be okay to give me the money, it's £10 p/w she gave me £5 but she eventually gave me the full amount now its happned again its the 5th week of the share. I told her she can leave the money in my tack box so she doesn't have to wait for me.

She hasn't done it that was 3 weeks ago her son has still been riding once a week which would cost her £25 per time at a school, so she's saving money. But she now owes me £30 I have sent her texts and emails no reply knocked on her door no answer she is avoiding me and she isn't exactly sly about it.

So I have now hidden the keys to the tack room and taken the ponies tack and sent her an email saying "Could you make sure you pay me the full amount before he rides again, Thanks."

I hate having to ask for the money and it feels like she's taking advantage I've decided if she pays up to have a word and say if she doesn't pay the £10 every sat then I cant have son riding him anymore because I can do without the hassle. I thought I was doing her a favour.

What do you think? what would you do?? :/ :)

Sorry for my moan x

I would end the share.

OH agrees with you he never liked them anyway ;) I'm starting to think that's the way to go really. I'll give them one last chance but her house is about ten steps from my field and an extra five to my tack room so it's not exactly far to walk to put some money in a tackbox. :)

I agree. Once she realises you aren't a pushover she may toe the line

I'd ask for the money owed plus a month/week in advance and keys to tackroom are not left unless money is up to date

I hate with a passion having to ask, it makes your bum go funny :( Pees me right off. They ride, they pay, end of. No money=no access to horse. Tough.

That doesn't sound great so early on in a share. Is it a boy riding pony, but mother paying bill? I think I would do a calm and strict email/text and phone call to remind them of arrangement. But if they are so casual now, would worry slightly what they will be like in the future. Also with regards to the way they deal with the pony. Hope it works out OK.

Tell them that unless they set up a standing order into your bank account you will end the share. You could put it in a nice way of course: :I hate having to ask for money from you, and so to save us both embarrassment, I thought it would solve the problem if you set up a direct payment into my account."

Definitely end the share!!! They should pay you a month in advance...well that's what I did with my share, that way no problems and if they don't pay they don't ride :).
I definitely think some think people are pushovers. A horse I shared kept being used for lessons when they knew what time and days i rode, so I would get to yard - horse be in a jumping lesson and absolutely knackered after (spesh in this hot weather)..would have to sit there waiting for the lesson to end and then she needed a break after. I ended that share shortly after...I just found people thought I was too nice and I kept letting it go...until I got v.annoyed and said bye bye!! :)

With a contract!

I'd find someone else who will abide by the terms of your agreement. Sounds like too much stress and hassle to me. :(

When payment is not forthcoming this early on in the share then I think you are always going to have problems. I wouldn't hesitate to end this share. I never used to like asking for money but nowadays I have no problem whatsoever, however it does put me on edge if I have clients who are bad payers. Most of my clients pay by email bank transfer and that works well; in a way it's 'easier' for them to give up money online rather than actually handing the cash over. All my clients have to pay upfront.

I'd get shut but if you do want to give them one last chance make sure its a months payment ahead and by standing order.

Completely agree, I'm afraid. If you're having issues over £5 here and £10 there, as early as 2 weeks in, then I would question how serious they are. They don't seem concerned about making a good impression and I would worry about how this could escalate in the future and where else they might become lax. This could be over-cautious but if it were me, I'd be ending the share based on this.
