I'm starting the search for a sharer for my 18 years young mare, she's competed all her life BS and BD and now needing a slightly easier life, although is by no means a plod or past it....just not up to competing all the time.
She isn't anyone's ride so I thought I'd test the waters with a full description on here and see what if any interest there might be.
1. Hacking.... We have access to on the farm hacking, she hacks out happily alone or in company. There are wild deer on the farm, it's possible that one might spook her but generally she tolerates them no bother. I'll admit to having a good canter in some of the fields so she can anticipate that and isn't beyond the odd buck if feeling fresh. There are XC jumps round the farm which I don't generally jump as I don't want her getting excited about jumping when sometimes I just want to go for a quiet plod. We do have a wood with some logs and she does expect to jump if she goes in there. If you don't like jumping don't go in!
On the roads I generally go out in company (I can accompany on my other horse if necessary). This is mainly as my previous horse was killed in a road accident and so a personal decision on my part and not because the horse wouldn't hack alone....it's just I never do for obvious reasons. She's good in traffic, goes over the motorway bridge, on and off bridleways, past wind turbines, dogs, cyclists.... and often acts as the nanny horse on our yard. I would generally try to slow/stop large tractors/buses on hacks but she isn't terribly spooky or bothered on the roads generally.
2. On the flat. She finds flatwork quite tedious and can be a bit backward thinking. Having said that she's competed and gained points BD at elementary and still registered. I plan to keep competing her BD or the right sharer could take that over if interested. I'd say a complete novice could ride her on the flat and be 100% safe but a more experienced rider would get a decent test out of her.
3. Jumping. Not a novice ride to jump! Very forward thinking and knows the job inside out. Most definitely not for a nervous rider. Sometimes bucks on landing and generally sharp. She won't be competing BS anymore and I am happy to be the only one to jump her.... Not averse to a sharer jumping her so long as they are competent (and brave!) I plan to do some hunt rides and some hunter trials with her next year. Again a sharer could do some of this if they were interested.
4. General. In the stable she's easy to deal with. Sometimes kicks out when the saddle goes on or lifts a front leg. Otherwise very easy in every way. Very soft and likes attention. Good with the other mares. Not so keen on geldings!
I'm looking for someone to ride her between 2&3 days a week and would be looking for a financial contribution towards her livery. How much is negotiable depending on how many days the sharer would like to ride etc. She's kept on full livery on the outskirts of Durham and its non negotiable for her to move. Although the facilities are fab. Indoor and outdoor arena to suit our random weather and beautiful and friendly yard atmosphere.
I'm in no hurry to find anyone, the right person must be out there and I'm happy to take the time to find them.
If anyone is interested or has any other questions then please PM me and I will try to answer them. This horse means the world to me but is a quirky girl and I want someone who loves that side of her too. She's great fun more than anything but maybe not for a nervous sort. Hope I haven't made her sound too negative but am trying to be honest so only the right sort of people approach me. Fingers crossed for some interest!
