I am sharing my horse - but want to know about cost.

Horse is 15hh cob mare, lovely responsive ride, big jump, bombproof, hacks alone/company, easy to handle etc etc.

She is kept at home, no menage/arena but is a grassy large jumping field with full set of showjumps plus grazing fields, stables, large tack/feed room etc.

I don't mind whether she wants to hack, school, jump her (within reason!)

Lady interested just wants to come once a week, knows what she is doing, she has rider insurance already - how much would i charge if I accept?

Once a week? What are you charging for? Isn't she doing you a favour by exercising your horse.

Personally I wouldn't charge, but that's just me.

We have a lady that keeps our elderly cob ticking over for us. She has as much use of him as she wishes which is normally 2 / 3 times per week but could be more if she wanted it. She can have lessons and if she wanted to could even take him to shows sponsored rides etc. She does nothing else just rides we turn out bring in feed etc and she pays for the cost of the DIY livery which equates to £140 per month.

Mine just pays for the shoes which works out at £10 a week for as much riding as she wants- she also looks after the gang for 2 weekends a year if we go away.

Is she just riding the horse or does she muck out etc on her day?

I probably wouldn't charge much for it - maybe £10 a week?

the going rate around here is around about £10 per day up to a point...

work out what your horse costs you to keep per month and break that down into a daily rate. I think you'll find it is pretty low considering you keep him at home but it gives you a benchmark figure...

Why is she doing them a favour??? Horse riding is a privileged sport - sorry but I totally disagree - why should someone use her horse for free?

I used to have a sharer that did one day a week - it was all she wanted to do. My horse is full livery so she just went and rode, but we do have a big indoor school and gallops, so she paid me £10.00 per week.
