I am thinking about advertising for a sharer, has anyone done this before or been a sharer, I have two horses I could do with some help with, just not sure how to go about it.

Yep, advertised my older mare through the riding club, found a lovely person who come up three or four times a week to hack. I only ask her to pay for Tia's shoes, as I'd pay the rest of her costs anyway so any help is a bonus, it was more to keep her active/interested. They are even going tohave enter some dressage over the winter. Suits the sharer too because she has a yearling who obviously she can't ride.
Think its a bit like loaning, as long as you are very careful and selective, and a bit lucky, it can work v well.

I've had several sharers over the years for my horses. Some have been great, others haven't been so good as their riding wasn't up to scratch or they 'forgot' to pay their contribution towards the horse's keep. Make sure you are very clear about how often they get to ride, what they are or aren't allowed to do with the horse, what you expect them to pay for & when you expect them to cough up the money! One girl I had share my arab didn't like it when I told her that she was too heavy handed to keep riding him & that was a bit awkward, another was a 'big' girl that wanted to ride more than my elderly anglo-arab needed each week & as a result he started losong too much weight. She wasn't happy when I had to explain she either need to cut down to just riding once or twice a week, lose a lot of weight or stop riding him & as a result reported me to the ILPH for the meatman rescue pony I was working on as his feet were long (the farrier was unable to get anywhere near him at that point!).

Others have been lovely & have included college students that couldn't afford their own horses but were good riders and a couple of keen novices who were delighted to have lessons from me and really wanted to improve so they could ride the horses well.

The best tip i can give you is to get the terms of the agreement down on paper so you both know where you stand

Thank you very much, Scarey thing for me at the moment, want to get it right for all involved,.
