Hello,

I may be allowed to share a pony with a friend (fingers crossed!), I've heard its alot cheaper that loaning and certainly buying.
If anyone knows anything about sharing please could you give me some more information so I know what i am committing to?
Thankyou ever so much

I think every share arrangement is different. It would be worthwhile have a share agreement written up (the BHS loan agreement is good and is very easy to 'tweak' to whatever suits you) so you will then know exactly what is expected from you, what you are resposible for (what is expected on your days of sharing, who is responsible for vaccines, buying feed for horse, shoeing etc) I would also check to see if your are insured when riding the horse and if not i would recommend getting rider insurance.

The first thing you must remember is that you do not own the Horse/Pony so it is up to the owner to set your rules and boundries. A contract is a good idea, although I don't have one wirrten up for me. But after 2 years of sharing the same Horse I know my boundries so don't really need one

I have Nelly once or twice a week, on them days I do her jobs and I ride her, Her owner is quite laid back and I can do whatever I like with Nelly, sometimes I ride, sometimes I will just go up and groom and spend the day cuddling!, however I will always let owner know if I would like to jump so that she doesn't get overjumped. I can do shows too.

Only thing I can't do is hack her alone. As owner has put alot of hard work into her as she can be quite naughty.

You are right in that sharing is much cheaper then loaning or owning, I pay £10 a day for Nelly.

Sharing is a great way to learn about Horse care and management and also ideal for those that would like to have more of a one on one with a Horse, but doesn't have the time to go up everyday.

Have fun :)
