For those who have a sharer/share a horse, do you pay even if you don't ride?

I had a lovely girl try Dibbs and she is really keen to start sharing him. She will be paying a financial contribution and riding at weekends. I don't know whether to ask her for money if for some reason she doesn't ride one weekend?

I have sharers for 2 horses and they pay a set amount each month and they have to pay irrelevant of whether they ride or not. Everyone i know thats shares has the same arrangement.

We had somebody share my pony, they paid monthly. Good arangment, that works well

I pay weekly by direct debit, a set amount (20/week) whether I ride not at all (horse out-of-action or, more likely, me busy/away) to 3 or 4 times. It is easy that way.

I think if Dibbs was unable to be ridden (ill/saddle being re-fitted/no facilities in the wet/whatever) for some time then maybe you should offer for her not to pay. But a one off thing (e.g. cast shoe) is part of the sharing deal I think. If she is on holiday you would, presumably, have to pay someone to bring in/turn out/whatever she does when she rides so it is fair enough for her to keep paying.

Mine is referred to by the owner as a 'part loan' but i pay whether or not i ride. And i have to do the jobs whether or not i am riding that day. Which is fair enough. That way everyone knows where they stand and there is a clear cut arrangement.

yes i also set a monthly amount they have to pay even when they dont ride, are on hol etc if they want to continue sharing afterwards! We cant stop paying for our horses when we cant ride/are away so the sharer shouldnt stop either - the cost doesnt decrease when they dont ride after all :P!
