I am looking to buy another horse at the moment however I already have one. I have already decided that I would get a sharer 2/3 days a week for the new one however because I've never shared before I don't know what a fair price is, I was thinking £30/£35 per week as they would also have the chance to compete with travel provided by us. The horse I am looking at buying is 15.2 and has previously done a bit of hunting, show jumping and XC but would excel in dressage too! What are people's opinions of sharing? Obviously I don't want my horse ruined! Thanks in advanced :)

I'd say don't bank financially on a sharer. I can't get any one to take a free share of my lovely mare. In the past I have got between £100-£150 a month with no stable chores. That was in Surrey. Less in the Midlands

Why particularly do you want a sharer?

You can't rely on one for help - you may not find someone. I think the amount you have quoted is quite a lot to be honest. What kind of deal would you be offering?

Would they have full care on their days or would it just be riding?

That kind of amount might be fine for just riding, but if you want someone to help with care etc too then you would need to look at reducing the amount to more like £20/25

I would like the sharer to take some pressure off of me riding everyday and also some financial contribution would be helpful. I'm not relying on sharers however to keep my horse, it would just be beneficial. I would cater for what the sharer wanted to do in regards to doing jobs etc, the option would be there. Thank you all for your input, as I say I have never shared before so don't know the average to be payed, I'm just going on what someone told me down my stables :)
