sharing horses?!

Hi

I am considering putting my gelding on a share basis so i have more time to concentrate on my mares schooling, as i am finding it difficult juggling her schooling, with his fitness.
Anway, is it the norm to have a contract drawn out? What should be in the contract?

go on the BHS website, they have example contracts you can use. Dont forget to cover things like tack, and silly things like if you dont want his appearance changed in any way e.g. no clipping, pulling, shoes etc how much notice you will both give should it end

Def - yep, the rider would need to have personal riders insurance so that if something happens she can not sue you...
Also would be worth writing up something so you have something agreed and in writing signed. It just covers you.
I would basically add details of when you want him ridden, so you dont turn up at a weekend and your gelding is not there - sending you into a panic, what he can and cant do, what routine you like etc...any costs if you are including any, and how long maybe you want the sharer for...also confirming that the gelding is owned by you, the tack, rugs etc is owned by you
just be straight in the contract so the sharer knows exactly what they can and cant do so nothing is missed or causes upset....you will prob have lovely people come and see him but just remember this is a business deal and you are doing this on behalf of your horse and to keep him fit. You want the best for him to back yourself by making sure you cover everything on paper and get it signed by the sharer, yourself and a witness.
