Opinions please for a friend of mine.

Do you think anyone would be interested in riding/sharing a horse under the following circumstances.

Horse is a 5 yo Irish draft and very green and is currently coming back into work after time off for injury.

There is a limit to what he can do but is perfectly up to hacking walk trot and a little canter but can’t be hammered round the countryside.

He shouldn’t really do too much schooling and being young he gets bored in the school but because of college she can only ride in daylight at the weekends so would like someone else to ride him out during the week.

There’s amazing hacking so it would be great for someone who wanted to hack out.

The problem is that while he is a lovely natured horse he is young and inexperienced and not really suitable for a novice.

I am wondering if someone who has the right level of experience would want to do more than just hack. It’s one thing helping bring on a horse when you can do a bit more with it but if at the end you can only hack?

Is it realistic to expect to find anyone to ride your horse under these circumstances? she wouldn’t want any money just help.

Also any suggestions of the best places to advertise a share online. Obviously it will go in local tackshops etc.

There's always someone out there that wont mind sharing a horse under these circumstances. Although he cannot do a lot it may suit a mother or a lady that doesn't work and its something for them to do during the day. However Im sure there will be someone however do state on your ad that you are not looking for a contribution just help. When I was looking for loans I went on www.freeads.co.uk as I found there was lots of loans and shares. Good luck, I hope your friend finds someone kind to share her boy.

I would.... and am perfectly capable of bringing on a young horse.... he has his limitations for now, but that wont be forever... finding someone to ride during the day i imagine would be the main hurdle......

I know people who have found students or people who work different hours e.g. bars restaurants so they are out there but they have had horses that can do more.

I used to share a horse that I could only hack. She was coming back into riding after many years as a brood mare. I could have schooled her but there was no where to school, there was no transport and the horse didn't jump.

At the time I was working shifts and studying.

If we weren't looking to buy now hubby would be happy with a free share that involved mainly hacking, and he's a freelance worker available during the day.

I think there are people out there. Just because someone is capable doesn't mean they necessarily have any ambitions. Perhaps a more mature sharer who has 'been there, done it' and just wants to be a happy hacker these days.. also they are more likely to have more time during the day....

Good luck.

I used to keep my horse in Mill Hill/Totteridge North London and I had two other people that used to hack him out during the day in the week. The arrangement worked very well and they used to ride him all over the place.

I found them by putting up an advert in the saddlers/feed merchants. (One of them is still riding my horse 25 years later).

Yes me possibly!
I live in West Hampstead and had to sell my horse so I could go back to college to retrain as a solicitor so have a few daylight hours to spare! I have been looking for something I could compete/ train on but to be honest I am missing riding so much would be perfectly happy to hack out for someone. I used to keep my boy in Borehamwood but can get out to most of herts/watford way so if that any use pm me
