Sharing/Riding... how many of you would...

Share or ride a youngster? Are there people out there who would do this? Would everyone be put off by age or restrictions in jumping and competing? Im not talking youngster who is an idiot, pretty much perfect behaviour, but then people are always wary.

Im getting a rider to support with ben as the girl who was helping hack him is going off to newmarket in june... I don't know if I am being picky, Im saying adults only, but to be fair his current rider is 16 and very very good and responsible with him as was the teen that used to ride ebony....

In the ad Ive stated that currently its only hacking, stated only adult, stated that for the right person when he is ready there would be opportunities for show/comp etc. Added a couple of lovely pics, one ridden and one not. Said about facilities at yard, said about his stellar nature.

All the responses I have had are two pro grooms offering to pro school him... this is not what im looking for. Its not worlds end, I can make the time, but it would be nice to have a rider/sharer.

I have had a sharer for a young cob in the past, for a tricksy ebony, but no one seems to want my benny... perhaps its just the wrong time of year or do you reckon somehow Ive aimed my ad at the pro's? If anyone would check it out and give me some feed back that would be great,PM me and I will send the link, don't want to pop it on here incase it causes the thread to be pulled as advert. Im genuinely perplexed, I know times are hard but normally people are chomping at the bit (scuse the pun)

Im in no rush, Im kind of planning ahead by looking now and as I said, if it boils down to it, I can do it.... just confused and would appreciate feedback:o
 
I think a lot of it will be time of year I know a few people struggling to find sharers.

If you have said adults only and hacking only a lot of adults will be at work during the day and its only just starting to be light enough to hack after work. Another few weeks and you might get a better response.
 
Look carefully at the wording of your ad. Does it sound like you're wanting someone to come and bring on your young horse? That will attract the pros and put off people who don't think they should be paying for the privilege of training someone's horse.
 
It does not seem to be a good time to find a sharer. my friend has been looking for someone to ride her lovely safe, sane, well schooled, hacks well alone and in company mare for no financial contribution and is really struggling. I think it also depends where you live as some areas it seems there are lots of sharers round here there are lots of horses for share!
 
I have always shared/loaned youngsters. I like to have a project and I like to see how the horse develops. I have always enjoyed taking the horse out for it's first outings etc and knowing that you helped to put that work in. However I have either not paid anything for the share, or I have paid a small amount for something like shoes. So they are out there!!

If your current rider is only 16 and you are very happy with her then I would also consider an older, reliable teenager. Most adults will work during the week and so may struggle to hack during daylight hours.

While I don't think the advert is 'worded' that way, I do think that perhaps the youngster element automatically puts that in mind, I may have a bit of an edit, as essentially, I will be bringing him on, I am not averse to someone taking a more 'active' role if they are capable and wish to do so, but my main focus is just someone to hack out.

Yeah, I agree, not the best time of year! I suppose the right person will come along. I may try my local FB too.

Yes, re the 16 yr thing, I did initially automatically put that in, especially since I kept seeing 'must jump' etc on the 'horse wanted' ads posted by teens, but then yesterday when writing this I thought about x and that there were some fantastic teens out there. will change the wording on that too.

I think possibly in this climate pro grooms are likely to reply on the off chance they might get some work, so I doubt its your actual advert. I wouldn't totally discount teens either, you could get a good one.
 
I don't share my youngster, but one of the young girls on the yard rides her a couple of times a week for me or when she has time. I think she's 16. If I had to look for a sharer I would not entertain a 16 year old, it's only because I know this girl that I allow her to get involved - she sat on her first, rode her first and took her for her first hack (with me walking behind). So she knows the pony and loves her to pieces. But I understand you only wanting adults because if I were in your situation, I would advertise for adults only. I think it's the time of year. Give it til the clocks change and then advertise again and you might find the perfect person. :)
