I have been looking for a horse to share for sometime now without any luck. I eventually found someone who had several horses to share and who I went to see. Had a nice IDx but whenever i suggested actual riding she said I would have to wait for the fields to be dry/the school to be laid. I was more than willing to help her muck out etc, but as she is there all day, it was always done by the time I could get there around 4.30ish.

Now I know nobody would want to allow someone they hadnt seen ride out hacking etc on their valuable horse, but this was 3 weeks ago now and still nothing, do you think I am being unreasonable expecting to ride so soon??? No money or anything has been mention or changed hands, I was just helping her bring in/groom/feed etc.... but that wasnt my idea of a share!

Opinions gratefully received!

IMHO she's taking the pee, having you muck out/do yard duties on not letting you ride! If she's got several horses she could ride out with you to see how you ride.

I would have a word with her, ask her straight what's going on, then start looking for something else.

I tried having a sharer but it drove me up the wall. Lasted 2 weeks before I told them to bugger off, am now putting him out on loan instead!

Yeah i thought maybe she just wanted to see how I was around horses etc, which I thought was fair enough, but when I have asked her, she just says to be patient, and that she wont let anyone hack her horses without seeeing them ride... oh well I guess its back to the drawing board.....
PS: why did having a sharer annoy you so much??

Because her mother was a horrid aggressive woman who drove me bonkers! They wanted all sorts of bizarre clauses in the contract to say that I couldn't go up on "their" days, that I had to be flexible on what days and work around them, that I wasn't allowed to pass any sort of comment on how the girl was riding (even if she was beating him senseless!!!) or treated him. Then the mother went on to say that because I told the girl to play on the inside rein (horse was gawping to the outside, going like a giraffe) when she put her leg on, the mother said I was a bad rider who was going to teach her daughter bad habits if I was around when she rode!! she also wanted her daughter to be able to hack him 8 miles away, down a main 60mph road, to where her friends keep there horses, and back again, both weekend days!

LMFAO!! So I told her where to stick it and have now found a lovely hunting home for him with people who are realistic.

Quite!!

I'm sure you'll find something but I don't think I'd be bothering with that woman anymore. Have you tried putting some ads up? Or how about looking for something on loan? I found it much easier to find someone to loan him that to share.

Yeah I have put ads up...... have actually just PM'd someone on here!!! Could afford a loan on my own (in fact dont have much to offer for a share to be honest, except alot of free time, after work in the week), and Im away alot at weekends, so that wouldnt be ideal....... just a waiting game im guessing! Think I will knock this woman on the head then.... was just checking it wasnt just me that though it was odd. When I had a sharer they were riding right from the start!
