So, we went to our first show yesterday, since we've had Joey. Shauna was a bit nervous, so first effort was a disaster, he stopped twice at the first fence, stopped 3 times at second, jumped the third, stopped at the 4th, she was in tears at that stage. I told her to stop crying, that she'd be fine, to think positive. She gave him a good wallop on the bum, and he flew around the rest of the course, and flew second round. I re-entered her and she jumped again, last to go, and had a perfect double clear, because she sat up and rode him. What turned out as a disaster, turned into a great birthday for shauna yesterday. Thankfully, she is looking forward to next week, she says it'll be double clear first time round. xx

Sorry to rain on your parade.. I have sat on my hands or ages before posting this WHY did the pony get a 'good wallop' when he was stopping because the rider was a) nervous and b)not riding? He was affected by his riders nervousness.. hardly fair to punish him for that!

Really well done, Shauna looks so happy! Sounds like she has learnt a very valuable lesson, that you need to ride, not be a passenger....glad to read such a happy post.

By the way, Joey is GORGEOUS.:):):)

This was my thoughts too.

By your own admition, she did the second round fine because she rode him. If she had "sat up and rode him" during the first he might not have refused. Hardly seems fair to punish the Pony when its the riders fault. That sort of behaviour should not be encouraged.
