One of my horses is on shavings he has rubber matting down and every everyone laughs at the bed he gets its half of stable and ankle deep and everyone says its too big but he is very mucky and anyless would be all pee pee by morning - how much shavings does your horse have x

Mine has a proper shavings bed as well on top of matting about 3/4 of the stable is shavings and yes it is probably overkill but (a) I feel better because it looks good and (b) she is also quite a wet horse and this works well for us.

I once had a horse on full livery on mats and only a sprinkling of shavings and his rugs were awful I was always having to have them cleaned.

Both my horses have huge shaving beds which go right up to the doors. One is very mucky and has a bale pretty much every other day.

when i had mats down my v mucky mare just had a small bucket of shavings sprinkled on her mats. then it was all swept out in the morning.

only prob was that she had to stay in turnout rug 24/7 so she cld lie down. otherwise a stable rug would have soaked up all the pee

My mare has a 5x5m foaling box, half is mats, the other bedded properly with hemcore. I use less than 1 bale/week.

Politely tell your friends to mine their own business, we all like to do our horses differently. I have a friend who's horse needs a grappling iron to get on his bed, it is so deep/high. She prides herself on a deep, clean bed with huge banks and mean HUGE.

my mare also has matting - the whole stables matted, but I also like to have a proper bed on top so I know she's all warm, cushoned and cosy and soaks her wet up shes also very wet.

my horses are on full rubber beds and I have 3/4 of bedding and quite deep too. I use five star bedding and it is unbelievable for wet/messy horses - is an absolute doddle to muck out, NO urine smell at all and is less then a bale of shavings I have saved a fortune this year as I only put one bag a week in because you simply hardly take any out. I wrote about it if you want to take a look and I've put in pictures of the stables with it in. HIghly recommend it on rubber beds with wet ones

My horses have 2/3 of the stable across the front with mats and the back third is a deep litter shavings bed that spills onto the mats, so it's half and half really. The more there is in there the easier it gets to keep the beds ticking over properly. Neither are very wet but one trashes the bed every night and the other wees on the mats and the lays in it

tracey01, have you been looking over my stable door!!!!! There used to be a livery on our yard who told me every day that my horse would be seriously injured if he fell off the edge of his D-E-E-P litter bed!
