Has anyone tried mixing woodchip and cardboard??? I have my horse on Sundown Gold (big flake, similar to Bedmax). I know you can mix rapestraw with it.

Not mixing but I use shredded cardboard (shred it myself from unwanted boxes from a local retailer) under a shavings bed. Does a good job of soaking up the pee, keeping it in one place and stopping it coming up to the surface and is cheaper than just using shavings.
I am actually about to stop the cardboard and try wood pellets in the wet patch under the shavings just because wood pellets are pretty cheap and when I add up the cost/time involved in transporting the cardboard, preparing it and shredding it I reckon I'll be better off with the pellets.

yes, i had a couple of bags of wood pellet bedding left when i got my big delivery of cardboard bedding, so mixed it a bit - put wood pellets, soaked, on the areas the horses usually wee. It worked fine.

have done can work ok. as card on its own can get quite heavy but the shaving move too much. would have more shaving than card
